My personal favorite is always the Jalfrezi
-
It's the best thing i had seen all day since i was walking for about 4 hours before that
-
We ended our meal with some and we didn't stop at 1
-
Normal tea with vanilla essence
-
I would say the quantity was a little less since we ordered 2 plates of Chicken Biryani and it still didn't seem enough
-
Or maybe we were a hungry group
-
Spice Village is great for family dining or group dining options
-
This truly is a bastion of curry induced pleasure
-
Our decision to go to Spice Village was one taken whilst still firmly within the curry coma that was the initial euphoria surrounding this blog
-
This certainly was not a rash decision
-
The Penguin stitched us up she met with her sister and sister's friend instead
-
Who could not compete with the indulgent males who chilled together and nursed an infinitely rewarding egg i
-
An intrepid reviewer is only right to take Haye's sound bite with a pinch of cumin
-
Rice and the like we were left like beached orcas after feasting on some helpless seal pups (apologies for the second
-
We arrived and were met by a tall confident waiter who looked as though he would be equally at home providing high level security in Kashmir as working the pass
-
Spice Village has added to its strength in size with plush furniture and a nice chrome finish to the kitchen area
-
We weren't disappointed with the curry buzz that welcomed us
-
Adorning the wall is an ornate clock which is a nice touch
-
Spice Village is pleasant and spacious
-
We started with the standard poppadoms and dip to warm the palette they were faultless
-
Crispiness and gram taste were at optimal levels and the sides were a different gravy (so to speak)
-
The mango chutney was exquisite with minimal lumps
-
Mint yoghurt dip was perfectly mixed and the chili was of equal standard and all three complimentary (take note Mirch Masala)
-
Whilst waiting for our poppadoms a waiter provided us with a litre bottle of table water we rightly suspected this was not complimentary
-
We would have liked to have seen a wider selection on the menu and get a little more bang from our lassi (please note bhang lassi is unavailable)
-
The naan's are freshly prepared in a tandoor like in most Tooting establishments
-
The choice of the Peshwari Chapli Kebab was made after following the advice of Umar Gul
-
Who says the Chapli Kebab is the best he's ever had (see website)
-
The kebab had a nice kick and the bhajis were perfectly adequate the two in the portion being a definite plus
-
The menu read well with both the chef's recommendations and specials highlighted we opted for a fish and a lamb dish
-
On further investigation it was a little over cooked and the tikka lacked that cutting edged that would have elevated it to food rosette level
-
We found it strange that to accompany the delicate flavour of fish the chef elected to serve it with more onions than a Frenchman's fruit bowl
-
This also raises the point that although it was branded fish tikka it was in fact cod tikka
-
It did have good flavour and the sense of theatre from the sizzling is always a plus point
-
Ainsley Harriot boldly claims is 'the best in the country' (see website)
-
The ratio of meat to sauce was consummate and the latter's consistency was similarly well measured
-
Whilst certainly not the largest it was certainly ample
-
The staff here are certainly no disservice to the exquisite food
-
Whilst our waiter changed a few times to start with we weren't phased as each comported himself professionally and with efficiency
-
As a Teessider was more than adequately equipped to deal with the mumbly accent and thoroughly enjoyed the banter
-
Either that or he was being suitably polite)
-
In addition to good service from the staff it was nice (as both professional market researchers) to see a questionnaire offered alongside the bill
-
This positive sentiment didn't stop us critiquing it (something we are duty bound to do given our professional capacity)
-
The card it was delivered on was finished professionally
-
The uniform rating scale was inappropriate for some of the attributes being rated
-
We were thoroughly impressed with the curry and scored Excellent for everything
-
We got the best in poppadum cuisine for free
-
Says 'Spice village is the only place I visit every time I come to UK' (see website)
-
Spice Village is a truly great curry experience and a real ambassador for the Tooting scene
-
Perhaps Village is actually quite apt given the relatively understated feel of this curry house given the treasures it holds within
-
We are left with a staggering grand total of 40/50
-
Spice village is a popular option on Tooting high street as competition is high between the Pakistani restaurants
-
I would recommend the fish as it is widely favoured by many
-
Spice village provides for you a tasty Indian cuisine with a variety of dishes to offer
-
The famous 'masala fish' is one of the best sellers as it is coated in a crispy batter which is fried to perfection
-
The mixed grill is part of my usual order consisting of succulent kebabs and spicy chicken chunks
-
The only downside of my experience at spice village is the time taken for the order to arrive which i guess is due to the busy environment and amount of people waiting to be served all at once
-
This means it's not a good idea to go totally empty stomached as you may have to wait for some time before the food arrives but the wait is definitely worth it
-
Even when going at Ramadan there was enough space for 4 people
-
Even though it was VERY crowded
-
The prices were reasonable
-
The service was good and fast
-
The restaurant was very busy so we had to wait until a table was available
-
Mains and desserts were all very tasty
-
The waiter and the other restaurant staff were very friendly
-
Most of the dishes are very tasty
-
Returning to an empty kitchen and having already made myself sick after gorging an entire box of Quality Street in one sitting (it was a small box
-
Seeing as our venue for this week is in the upper reaches of Tooting very much in Bec territory
-
First to arrive was warmly greeted by the patrons of Spice Village with a "
-
Spice Village is certainly a high class curry establishment
-
The service was quite frankly superb
-
Whilst this is possibly not the case for every patron to Spice Village seven days a week
-
All this adds up to our best curry experience so far with three 10s from the CURRYBONDers
-
We kick off with a round of popadoms which went down a treat followed by a nice selection of starters
-
Sizeable rostis with a good crunch and a warming spice
-
Whilst none of the CURRYBONDers were feeling overly fishy this evening our hosts were so keen to show off this special we were presented with a portion gratis
-
Perfection it seems however is not quite so easy to grasp
-
Whilst the curry was pretty tasty the general consensus was fine but a little disappointing
-
17.18/CURRYBONDer and considering Spice Village is another alcohol free establishment this comes in at the top end of curry prices in Tooting
-
The portions were good and we certainly left satisfied
-
Possibly the largest Asian restaurant on the busy high road in Tooting (a part of London renowned for its multiculturalism and saturated with restaurants)
-
Spice Village has been around for a while and is very popular with local Asian families
-
So the canteen style with fluorescent green walls has now been replaced with a Liberace meets car boot sale decor
-
A couple who were waiting for a table said the food here is &lsquo
-
Very impressed with the interior decor
-
Food lacks authenticity and was very average
-
After enjoying a meal with some friends
-
We all wound up with a wicked case of food poisoning the following day
-
I followed up with the management who was unhelpful and indifferent
-
The samosa chat is a personal favourite
-
The chicken tikka masala turned up and was basically just a HOT PINK chicken stew
