The latest restaurant to hit the gourmet burger craze is Meat and Shake
-
The drinks menu includes super thick american style milkshakes ( which are difficult to finish) and non alcoholic beer
-
Including a smoking burger complete with smoke under a glass cover
-
The burger is complemented with salad and fries
-
The burger is a little on the small side ( american style
-
The restaurant is situated amongst a busy road full of takeaways
-
The interior has a american young vibe with its alternate interior decor
-
The burger is omnipotent and irresistible
-
Perhaps along with cockroaches they would be the only things left after a nuclear war
-
They know their market the menu is fully halal
-
I suspect the local Muslim community welcomed with open arms a new place to eat that wasn&rsquo
-
Go a little either side of the usual eating times 2pm on a Saturday and there were two tables free on arrival
-
Ve gone for a casual American diner feel with leather booths and a sign illuminated with bare light bulbs
-
The latter is entirely superfluous
-
All the meat is free range and from Macken Brothers
-
That ordering something with white truffle mayo and a honey and truffle glaze can be too potent
-
Patty pink in the middle with juices escaping as I cut
-
There are few things worse than bun left over with nothing for it to do (£
-
The other half is with blue cheese
-
Chips topped with chilli con carne with nice fat kidney beans
-
The coleslaw was a little disappointing and mostly left too watery
-
The side of gherkins were three fat piquant whoppers
-
Stem ginger with lemon and honey
-
Peanut butter with banana and brownies
-
Salted caramel was there and we all know how impossible that is to ignore
-
Rather than trying to compete with the well established heavyweights up town
-
Getting adventurous with the shakes
-
It would be fair to say that these later ones are an evolution on Tinseltown they certainly are when it comes to price but I have to say so far I've been disappointed with most of them
-
Meat and Shake is no exception
-
It all comes down to style over substance the place does pretty well if all you want to do is take pictures of food and post them on Facebook
-
Or check into whatever app the kids are checking into nowadays
-
The whole experience was just so shallow
-
Having checked previous reviews for the place I had my doubts about how good the meal was going t be
-
I opted for a burger having read that the beef is matured for a minimum of 35 days
-
The chicken wings were good in size but didn't really do it for me
-
I can honestly say its one of the best I have had
-
No alcohol or pork is served on the premises
-
D heard a lot about Meat and Shake and was so happy to hear it&rsquo
-
You can tell that the staff are very passionate about burgers
-
The interior is styled like an American diner
-
The waiters use iPads to transmit order information to the kitchen which means there is no delay in receiving your meal
-
There are also some very impressive looking loaded hot dogs but we were pumped about the burgers so gave these a miss on this occasion
-
The von Longhorn with turkey bacon
-
The burger was an immense pile on of ingredients and very tasty though the tortillas did not add much to the mix
-
There was an intense smokey flavour and the spectacle was a unique experience for sure
-
The burger patties are all cooked pink or medium unless you ask for them to be cooked differently
-
Unfortunately the ribs and pulled rib burgers were not available on the day we visited which was a real shame
-
Sides like rosemary fries and sweet potato fries were perfect accompaniments
-
The milkshakes were pure gluttony
-
These really should come with a health warning
-
E infused with basil and this is flamed at the table
-
Banana and brownie are just a few other liquid surprises
-
Meat and Shake is burger perfection
-
The naked yet caged filament lights are in stark contrast to the pop up stalls and multi coloured neon of Upper Tooting Road
-
The presentation here is all about being big and bold
-
The Plain Jane burger was drenched in sauce and cheese
-
The Von Longhorn burger was stacked high with multiple topping layers
-
Both plated burgers are garnished with a squiggle of sauce topped with an edible flower I have to say this jarred a little
-
The Plain Jane comes topped with American cheese
-
Whilst underneath the patty is a slice of tomato and a leaf of unchopped rosso lettuce with mustard
-
While some of the elements are great (the cheese
-
The ketchup is an artisan version which is mellow and tomato y
-
Within seconds my hands were coated with sauce and the patty was sliding all over the place on the unchopped lettuce and tomato
-
It brings together (from top to bottom) aioli with tomato and rosso lettuce then a beef patty topped with Monterey Jack
-
Some of this is really great the fried onions on Jack cheese and beef is a fantastic combination
-
I unceremoniously scooped up the dollops that escaped the burger with my fingers to cram into my mouth
-
*The joint is Halal which explains the turkey bacon
-
I hear there is some serious behind the scenes testing going on to recreate the taste of bacon without pork
-
The patties were underseasoned so
-
Failed to pack a proper beefy punch and were lost in the melee of toppings
-
Is that with both burgers so loaded with toppings and sauce
-
More to do with the panko onion ring and matchstick fries reducing squashability
-
These are essentially chilli and cheese covered fries with sliced chillies
-
6/10Whilst there are elements of greatness at Meat &
-
I can't help feeling it's a bit confused with its whole menu/location/vibe
-
They're trying to target multiple audiences with influences from everything they've tasted
-
The mushroom swiss is a replica of the one at MeatLiquor
-
The Smokey Bandit is a take off of Patty &
-
One thing to note is all their meat is Halal
-
So they're not going to be serving pork or booze anytime in the near future and that immediately rules out a decent cross section of people who want to grab a beer with their burger
-
The burgers are quite good
-
I expect if it was in my neighbourhood I'd be back and they're clearly doing very good business (they broke even on day 1
-
When we arrived we were EXTRA hungry
-
I drove there in about 45 minutes and almost missed it as it was a discreet looking place on the main road
-
Once inside we were greeted and sat down
-
I really did enjoy the burger and was able to taste every flavour within
-
The Dirty Fries were smothered in chilli concarne
-
The price of the burger was average ish costing £
-
5.80 for fries that were just a well decorated XL portion
-
That would make sense with the price and portion
-
Shakes is one of the best place in town
-
I love to try new things so I went for oreo (vanilla ice cream with crush oreo biscuits)
-
I fancied trying something a little different and The Ruby Murray was just the ticket
-
The chicken was tender and accompanied perfectly by the tikka masala sauce
-
The poppadom and mango chutney on the side were a nice touch too
-
Killed me diet out the window with no regrets after that
-
The dirty fries were by far the best I've tasted even better than the burgers they offer
-
All Meat and Shake - Tooting (Tooting) needs is a liquor license
-
Was really looking forward to Meat and Shake - Tooting (Tooting) but was a bit of a disappointment
-
Onion rings were over done and very brittle
-
On the plus side the jerk chicken burger was unusual and tasty and the service was excellent
-
The food is delicious and staff are USUALLY so well mannered
-
The fact that the staff member was so rude in dismissing me and the fact that I couldn't even ask about the closing time or any other simple questions because "
-
I understand it's Ramadan and there are many people wanting to go there but it's not fair that if I want dinner there
-
I was turned down with a simple shake of the head and when I wanted to ask a question
-
The fact that I can't book a table during Ramadan is unacceptable
