  • Big tomato saucey meatballs and creamy goat's cheese croquettes were delightful

  • Grilled veg in basil oil were overcooked and swimming in the oil

  • Sweet potato and groat's cheese gratin was not so much gratin

  • More shrivelled chips with a bit of goat's cheese chucked on top

  • Garlicky prawns were also very tasty

  • The sangria was also great

  • Not too sweet and there was loads of it

  • This awesome little restaurant is probably my favourite find in Brixton Village

  • Order a bit of soft fluffy bread to go with it and I promise you won't be disappointed

  • What initially caught my attention about The Provincial (Brixton) was the cozy decor and the cute beauty seated at one of table eating and reading a book

  • Now why that wasn't enough to hook me once I read the menu I was truly intrigued

  • Were delicious and deceivingly strong as I left with a nice buzz

  • Amid the polished yuppieness of Brixton Village is this straight forward BYO restaurant serving bumper portions of top quality dishes

  • Am confident everything on the menu is decent (don't let my shoddy pictures be an indication of taste) though the sea food plate (glorious chips) &

  • Having gone to The Provincial with some work colleagues of mine

  • We were then approached by the waiter which told us that there was no more steak available so two people clearly had to go hungry

  • When the owner was approached by a Spanish colleague of mine

  • The two began going back and forth and the owner stated there was no complaint book

  • That nothing will be given for free (which we did not mention) and that we are in Brixton so if we don't like it

  • He accused me of trying to find a small complaint to make a big deal of things to which I stated that I had no issue with my food which was really quite nice

  • As everyone is beginning to feel very agitated

  • I called over the waitress and asked if she could please get our bills ready and for the owner to move away from my personal space as did not feel comfortable with him near me

  • The owner took one last stab at us by stating in Spanish to my Spanish colleague that we are in Brixton and my colleagues kind (white spanish) do not rule here and he

  • As a black man is above him because in Brixton black people rule (his words not mine

  • I was disgusted by this man's behaviour and I would stretch that this is not a pleasant

  • Even so the interior was full bar one table which we bagged

  • There was a good selection of Tapas which were mainly Spanish and main courses were South American

  • All were good although the outside of the fish cakes were a tad leathery

  • Mains I had lamb in coriander with chips and salad

  • The lamb was wonderful and the chips the best I have eaten in years large and crisp and golden

  • My wife had the pork belly with rice which was (almost) as good

  • My youngest daughter had the pulled pork which was good but a little too salty

  • My eldest daughter had the seafood with rice which looked and tasted wonderful

  • We drank the house red which was a smooth rioja

  • By this time the restaurant was heaving with at least ten tables taken outside despite the evening being a little chilly

  • Two waitresses and a waiter managed to deal with all this with charm and flair

  • Our total bill was under £

  • The decor is relaxed and the staff are always friendly and welcoming

  • The prices are reasonable and the portions generous

  • All home cooked and there are both English and Colombian options

  • The Colombian breakfasts are served with freshly squeezed juice and the coffee is really high quality

  • The portions are very big and the restaurant itself is relaxing and the dé

  • The owner is passionate about what he does and is very friendly and lovely
