Oliver Maki (Soho)

• Oliver Zeitoun and his brother Amer already have four popular restaurants in the Middle East and this is their first restaurant in London

• Head Chef Louis Kenji Huang uses international flavours and textures to create innovative dishes which are rather extraordinary
• Rather than starting with a hearty bowl of miso
• We were given little shots that come with sweet potato crisps and bread &ndash
• Recently opened Oliver Maki demands attention with its inventive menu and eye catching presentation
• We had a tasting menu which overall was good but didn't blow me away
• The most interesting thing about it was maki made with an ume wrap instead of the typical nori (I imagine sushi wrapped in a fruit roll up would taste similar in a good way)
• The highlight though were the desserts
• A green tea tiramisu dressed up to look like a little potted plant and a deliciously caramelly pain perdu with baked apple
• The food at Oliver Maki is not bad but sadly
• Their menu on an ipad is also one of the most aggravating things I have encountered lately
• Oliver Maki was a case of low food expectations
• Oliver Maki blends an eclectic Mediterranean and often Mexican feel with fresh Japanese sushi and sashimi cuts
• They make it up with their own homemade olive oil based sauce infused with what I guessed was soya sauce and togarashi
• The shrimp tacos are simply to die
• The tuna tartare was also impeccably prepared and had just the right zesty taste
• The other sushi platters were just as delicious
• All the dishes are very well presented
• The matcha tiramisu was a must to order even just to take a picture
• The restaurant was not even half full when I was there on a sat night
• I actually went to it with a friend over a year ago and just never got round to blogging about it
• Subject to a walk in the scorching heat at the end and then even when I was in the barber&rsquo
• Being able to sleep with eyes wide open
• They were so attentive and our waiter made sure we were comfortable
• Our glasses were full and helped us make great sushi choices
• The decor in the restaurant was also really pretty
