Overlooking the riverside of West India Quay and Canary Wharf the scenery was set for a cosy intimate candlelit dinner
-
The USDA rib eye steak was tender and flavoursome
-
The steaks were simply scrumptious and have to be one of the favourites I had in London
-
American steakhouse Manhattan Grill is set in a buzzy strip of eateries by the water in the corporate world of Canary Wharf
-
The view of the water combined with the steady hum of passers by made for a pretty pleasant
-
The restaurant's service was outstanding
-
Complimentary crispy bread with some sort of sour cream and chives spread was a nice opening touch
-
We all opted for the dry aged Scottish grass fed steak (an American cow option is also on offer
-
When mixed with a tasty peppercorn gravy and the flavoursome sides it made for an enjoyable meal
-
Overcooked meat is a bit of a faux pas
-
The feast was finished off with a deliciously creamy New York cheesecake
-
The drinks menu was extensive and high quality we gulped down a combination of Peronis and a silky smooth red wine
-
Thanks in large part to the awesome staff and oh so good sweet potato fries (but it is tough to fully turn a blind eye to those overcooked rib eyes)
-
To bring you the best steak cooked exactly as requested
-
Directions are next to useless around that area and ended up going the long way around to cross the little stretch of water via Poplar
-
Only to discover when we got there we were only a shorter walk away from a footbridge across
-
After stressing out that we were going to be late for our reservation
-
Especially on a weeknight where there were only a handful of other diners
-
Manhattan grill comes with 2 main options Kansas USDA grain fed beef steaks
-
Our waiter was well versed in the difference
-
The scallops with pea puree and chorizo were beautifully cooked and well paired with the chorizo
-
Considering it is a stone&rsquo
-
T expect anything less than the freshest scallops (except on a Monday when it is closed of course)
-
The pork belly was less successful as it is was slightly dry and the crispy skin was a bit chewy
-
A bit disappointing considering it is one of my favourite pork cuts
-
Before we started the waitress asked us to cut through the steak to make sure they were as requested
-
Just the huge slab of ribeye and some buttered green beans is pure joy for me
-
Polite and nothing was too much trouble
-
The Manhattan Grill is in the West India Quay Mariott
-
At first you tend tot hunk that a restaurant inside a Mariott is going to be nothing to write home about
-
With the river is actually lovely
-
The disabled toilets were airey and clean
-
The scallops were cooked perfectly and the chorizo chunks were real chorizo
-
The crab cake was stuffed with crab and again
-
The belly bites are fried fatty and chewy
-
Not gourmet food but very easy to keep popping in with the apple chutney
-
The actual meat in the Wagyu was pretty tasteless
-
The fillet had much better flavour and they were both cooked beautifully as we had asked
-
Chocolate Sundae and Apple crumble for dessert were both very nice
-
I imagine it is completely rammed on weekday evenings
-
So booking is likely to be really important during the week
-
Let's get back to Manhattan Grill and analyse (food reviewing is very serious business I tell ya
-
Especially the pretty bridge you have to cross from Canary Wharf to reach your destination (Manhattan Grill) is extremely romantic (that is the best word I could use
-
Oh did I mention that this steak house is a part of Mariott
-
These guys are ace when it comes to such things
-
I made a reservation before going and I was extremely delighted to see that the manager remembered my name without having to look at one of those black diaries
-
The service was a bit slow initially (it took them a while to get us water which we requested for) but the overall service made up for that little jolt
-
I was generous to take a friend of mine along with me (nothing is worse than eating alone
-
He made me a cocktail with that gin and added some more exciting things to it which included rosemary
-
Before entering the restaurant I was starving but all this Gin excitement made me forget my hunger but by the time my cocktail was ready the waiter came and said
-
'Madam your Steak is ready' Perfect Timing
-
I went for the rib eye steak with creamy mash and red wine sauce keep it simple
-
After being rather satisfied with my steak and cocktail
-
We ordered for a Manhattan Raspberry Cheesecake It was again simple but delicious
-
Knowledgeable bar genius with a great moustache
-
Well done meat and yummy desserts That m'dear is a perfect dinner
-
Every blog I wrote was like a love letter
-
Manhattan Grill is a good old fashion steakhouse set in a modern surrounding and prides itself on offering the best steak in the Canary Wharf area
-
One look at the menu certainly does nothing to contradict that claim as the steak selection (all USDA certified mind you) is vast and comprehensive
-
Both starters were beautiful and really set the bar high for the rest of the meal
-
The scallops were cooked to perfection and were complemented well by the pea puree
-
The blackened cod was delicious and I loved the soy honey glazing but the rice that it was served with was undercooked and still grainy
-
The 10oz New York steak (ordered raw) with a blue cheese crust and chimmichurri came out without the crust so had to be taken back and the cheese hastily put on
-
What this meant was that when the steak was returned
-
The cheese hadn't properly crusted or fully melted and the steak was medium raw rather than raw
-
The burger was cooked medium though I had asked for medium raw
-
The side of mac and cheese with lobster was a nice luxury but I found it lacking cheesiness
-
This however might be by design so as to not overpower the comparatively subtle lobster taste so I will trust the chef that this is intentional
-
I finally settled on the Quay Lime Pie with clotted cream and don't regret that decision one bit
-
I guess you could say the meal was above average
-
The service is impeccable
-
It was much quieter than we were expecting for a Saturday evening usually not a very good sign
-
Was served with pea puree and crispy chorizo
-
The baked blue swimmer crab cake was good as well thick
-
The king prawns were cooked in garlic butter and served with a mixed salad although the flavour was nice
-
The roasted black cod was really tasty
-
A lovely thick fillet which was very moist and succulent
-
Again was not great spinach was basically drowned in cream and very limp and overcooked
-
So the pecan pie was definitely on my list it didn't look too bad
-
I felt that it was a bit too dry
-
I think that it would have been better if the clotted cream was substituted with ice cream
-
The crumble at the top was not crisp enough
-
Despite my disappointment with the two desserts
-
Service overall was prompt and courteous
-
Our waiter was very attentive throughout the evening
-
So when the offer came up to go to Manhattan Grill it was perfect timing as it was nice to spend some quality time together before I headed off for a very long weekend break
-
The flavour of the scallops alongside the pea puree and the chirozo itself was superb but i thought the scallop needed more of a firmness to make it superb
-
The prawns were fresh and so yummy and I would have left extremely happy had I only had the prawns
-
I couldn't fault any part of my steak and it certainly ranks there with some of the best I have had
-
I often find that sometimes restaurants struggle with medium rare concept as its either too medium or too rare
-
Manhattan Grill is based in Canary Wharf within the Marriott hotel
-
Unfortunately I would say the lack of buzz was the only thing that let the restaurant down a little bit
-
Despite the lack of buzz the steak was excellent and the BF and I had a lovely evening before I jetted off
-
Canary Wharf is a frequent haunt for us
-
Manhattan Grill is located within the Marriott hotel
-
A little overpowered with the crispy chorizo and pea puree but still beautifully and perfectly cooked
-
Is moist and flavourful and far more superior to my fillet which while very thick is a little too much on the dry side without even flavour to compensate
-
What is a steak dinner without some dessert and an order of the double chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream is in store
-
It's a great choice for a hefty meal out with colleagues
-
That was particularly appealing to Mr Sunny and I because we like to enjoy our meat fest at a restaurant with no distractions
-
We started with our standard adult beverages
-
This threesome that Mr Sunny and I ordered to join our Mains was not intimidating
-
Sunny had the same sensation with his T bone steak from the Scottish Aberdeen Angus menu
-
We learned that alcohol was not covered in our voucher
-
T covered to us when we were seated and gave them the voucher
-
Every single morsel of food we ate at Manhattan Grill in Canary Wharf was truly fantastic
-
Manhattan Grill is located at 22 Herstmere Road
-
So far there have been only two establishments in the UK which I trust to serve me steak one is The Hawksmoor*
-
The restaurant is empty as we arrive
-
The competition from steak night at the local Wetherspoons is unlikely to be a deciding factor
-
We eschew starters in order to chew mains with a healthy selection of sides
-
Rather it takes its time to slowly discuss with your tongue everything that is good in the world
-
Dignified conversation that is in no way one sided mainly because every few minutes or so you find yourself emitting a low growl
-
Her sweet potato fries beg to be stolen whenever she looks away (which is considerably more often than you'd expect
-
Given that I keep pointing to the calm views across West India Quay's North Dock in order to provide myself with opportunities)
-
The mac and cheese with lobster is disappointingly absent on the day of our visit
-
An oxtail alternative is offered (and gladly accepted)
-
The restaurant was almost empty
-
Then at 6.30pm on a Friday evening most of the Docklands set are still in the bars
-
What that did mean though was that we had the chance to enjoy a comprehensive wine tasting
-
M on a mission to find the best in London and next up on my list to try was Marriot Hotel&rsquo
-
My sister and I dined at Manhattan Grill on a Friday evening after work and it was surprisingly calm
-
Evenings over cocktails with friends and nights working all to myself alone in this beautiful paradise located beside the Docks
-
I had opted for a fillet of Creekstone Kansas and he went with a rib eye of Scottish Aberdeen with creamy horseradish and bernaise sauce
-
The sides ordered were good and complimented the main
-
A must visit if you are a lover of steak
-
The one thing I did have you complain about was how bland the steak was
-
With abit of salt it was better but I was quite disappointed in that
-
The restaurant was very very gorgeous
-
The drinks were too watered down with ice cubes so it's like paying for half a glass rather than a full
-
When I did receive my food which was simple Sweet Potato Fries and Onion Rings it was rather warm going to cold than hot
-
Course the price is more on the expensive side
-
Other than that the waitresses and waiters were very nice and I will be visiting this restaurant again to try the rest of the menu
-
On my second visit the service was a bit better
-
I pretty much ate the whole thing as the wait for food was quite daunting
-
When my meal did arrive it was and I'm happy to say hot
-
I had Baby Back Ribs with apple Slaw and a side of Macaroni Cheese
-
I did have to dazzle it with salt to add flavour
-
The Baby Back Ribs were very tasty I would have liked a bit more sauce on the ribs but overall was very good
