  • MASH combines the best of American diner cuisine with beautiful aged Danish steaks

  • The decor is all 1930s art deco and is located underground

  • It is a cavernous space decked out with red satin booths and low hanging lighting

  • The wine list is also unique

  • Ve recently been lured in to experimenting with slabs of the good stuff and have actually rather enjoyed it

  • Occupying the site that was formerly The Titanic bar and grill on Air Street

  • Aqua Nueva and any of the Uberstaurants that battle with the luxury of space

  • Booth and banquette seating arrangements and a central bar with a comprehensive U

  • Delete as appropriate) made with Buffalo Trace bourbon and a port float

  • Reams of vino and bubbles from most if not all of the main wine countries grace this epic 25 page almanac and bottles are available in sizes ranging from 70 ml up to a Jeraboam

  • Can it be a well chosen list with such an extensive selection

  • As the company is founded by Copenhagen concepts&rsquo

  • The Danish side is dry aged so we took the long bone and the US Bone in Ribeye for comparison

  • Which there was virtually none

  • The Danish was packed with deep

  • None of the dishes are individually outstanding bar the Danish steak

  • Feel good food is perhaps the aptest axiom

  • Being Danish there is nothing modest about the restaurant

  • The sight of the dining room is quite impressive with lit up columns in Art Deco style

  • The red colour continues into the dining room through the red carpet and red leather chairs accompanied with dark wood floor and tables

  • T be a coincidence that the last restaurant here was named Titanic

  • Many of the tables are fixed to big red leather sofas similar to those typically found in American Diners

  • MASH (Modern American Steakhouse) originated in Denmark 2009 and this is their first restaurant abroad

  • Each piece of steak was quickly sliced up by the table

  • My favourite was the Danish ribeye which I think was most flavourful

  • The steaks were well prepared and juicy

  • They were lightly flavoured and topped with a rosemary garnish

  • The Bearnaise was very good but for the ribeye I preferred the lighter red wine sauce

  • I expected thinner slices but was presented these donut like things

  • I guess the lack of a photo on them is an evidence that they didn&rsquo

  • By the end of the meal the bill was delivered in a witty envelope

  • The damage was not too bad compared to similar restaurants in London

  • Those who wants to splurge a range of vintages of Screaming Eagle and Harlan are offered (yes

  • The entrance of this beautiful newly renovated building is very understated compared to what follows

  • There's no substitute for great staff and MASH are not short in that department

  • We started with Little Italy (£

  • Served in a two tiered glass with Cherry &

  • I dare you not to take a picture of MASH's take on the Old Faithful geyser as dry ice is cleverly funnelled up and out of a (rather heavy) clay and jesmonite creation

  • The cocktail itself is suitably earthy

  • Then there was more fun with Mad Hatter (£

  • This is a fine example of the genre with smartly blended flavours

  • The drinks were starting to pile up but I remained fully focused for this delightful pour

  • This leads to a smooth whiskey drink with hints of coconut that will appeal to Old Fashioned fans amongst others

  • The MASH branded ice is an unnecessary but pretty cool touch

  • Drew us in to a lengthy conversation with the outstanding bar manager about making crystal clear ice at home without distilling the water first

  • Presented in a signature ceramic cup and served with a beetroot crisp

  • It's a quirky herbal bitters that MASH are clearly fond of as it makes another appearance in the Yosemite (see below)

  • Another hit was Yosemite (£

  • Cola served with a tea infuser &

  • Our penultimate drink was the Sipper (£

  • It's a concept that I can get on board with a subtle

  • Can easily be played with by adding different flavour packs to the base bourbon

  • The glassware is designed such that it's impossible to take more than a sip without giving yourself a Sipper shower

  • Is ultimately fairly frustrating for someone that is capable of drinking slowly from a regular glass

  • After starting with suggested A1 / B2 / C3 pairings of tubes &

  • I booked a table at MASH (Modern American Steak House) in Soho to celebrate their 1st Birthday with half price steaks

  • The upstairs lobby feels like a posh hotel our coats and bags were taken by two smartly dressed women

  • We started off with some red wine

  • The most expensive item is the Australian Wagyu steak £

  • Wagyu cattle are fed beer/sake and receive massages

  • Whereas red wine is used in Australia

  • 10 steak from Flat Iron that wipes the floor with everything we were given

  • Even at half price that we were paying for the meat

  • Even if you are happy paying a premium for high quality steak

  • Hawksmoor are much more competitive with their prices

  • It was absolutely packed with suits and must make an absolute killing so I think I am in the minority

  • Head to the bar and get snacks with your cocktails instead

  • MASH is an American steak house with a Danish accent

  • Masculine US dining with a cosmopolitan relief

  • Re as likely to see a table of hedge funders kicking back as you are an A List celeb stopping for photos with a tourist

  • Who knew steak was such a complex beast

  • Dessert is an afterthought but play with a crè

  • E as you polish things off with a bourbon cocktail

  • Punters buzzing off the fact that this is rather indulgent for mid week dining

  • Smile and chat with fellow diners as you wait for your coats upstairs

  • Ribeye to die for and the sides are fantastic as well

  • I've walked past this restaurant on several occasions before and thought nothing of it thinking it was either selling gourmet mash potatoes (strange thought)

  • When I found out they were doing half priced steaks

  • I was proven wrong my NY fillet I had was gooood and cooked perfect

  • Omaha steak is renown for being great and having now tried it

  • I can see why the meat was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife and flavour so intense it's a shame it had to end

  • Sides too were great compliments with the bone marrow being the pick of the bunch but if that doesn't sound appealing

  • The chilli chips and onion rings were also tasty

  • Don't fret if you're not keen on steak because there are other items on the menu which you would be equally happy with the corn fed chicken is delightful and the signature M

  • H Burger (served with the chilli fries) is a satisfying meal

  • Well that's equally about who you're with than the sort of vibe you arrive to

  • That part is really our fault we've chosen to have a late weekend lunch after emptying the bank account at neighbouring Regent St and clearly this is outside of peak dining times

  • Perhaps it's different with a few more people rattling around

  • It resembles an ageing Vegas nightclub with all that red

  • The waiter who serves us tells us it is quite unusual to be so quiet and agrees that it's thanks to our strange dining time that the place is desserted

  • Neighbouring establishments are still at least half full

  • I think the descent into the cavern is off putting for the passing trade

  • Any last hope the waiter may have had at having something is dashed when I ask for water

  • They offer to make me up a virginal juice cocktail which I suspect is just so they'll have something to do

  • The charcuterie on the other hand is nothing special

  • Adorned as they were with just the one steak

  • The steak was cooked exactly as I wanted and Mac and cheese was rich and creamy with the addition of bacon bits adding a meaty richness

  • The depths of the dark while it's sunny outside is motivating me to seek some gelato above ground

  • I think if I do give it another chance it will be at night and with a lot of people in tow so the staff can set to work mixing up some cocktails while I try and get past all that red leather

  • I was having only desserts which were amazingly made

  • We decided to award ourselves with chocolate cake which was freshly made

  • The customer service was outstanding both times we were appointed a person who would take care of our dinner or drinks

  • We were honoured with special attention both times

  • The setting is modern with red seats

  • The service was also very good

  • Considering it was quite big and busy

  • Regardless it was still very tasty and satisfying

  • The size of the restaurant is impressive

  • So the chance to sit back and enjoy a few drinks and some snacks with fellow foodie Matt The List was greatly appreciated

  • So I'd say that was awesome work all round

  • Each cocktail comes with a cute postcard

  • You drink the cocktail from the bottom then ate the cherry as a chaser with a little wooden fork

  • Clearly the champagne reception had gone to my head already because I thought this was raspberry at first

  • Came in a bloody heavy stone with dry ice to make it look like it was smoking

  • Served with a huge block of ice with the mash logo engraved

  • This cocktail is not only delicious but an awesome experience drink all round

  • At this point my recollection of the cocktails is getting kinda bad

  • The Northerner in me wanted to steal it for home but I was very restrained and left it there

  • Like a long island ice team but served with your very own playing card

  • In case you are steak lover then this is the place to be in

  • Ordered NY strip and it was best price of steak i had after a long time&hellip

  • Mash are said to have the best parts of a real American steak house tradition

  • Basically what this means in layman terms is that they serve BIG Steaks

  • On top of this they claim to have five star service with breathtaking interiors and the biggest selection of American wine outside of the US

  • I've tried a few of these new American steakhouse restaurants with little success

  • Inexperienced staff serving dried out ribs with one dimensional barbecue sauces for unsophisticated palates

  • I'll do my best to keep an open mind

  • Its a lovely spring day and I head into Soho with my partner in crime

  • This is a sponsored visit so I have pre warned my companion that there is to be none of the usual grumbling and impatience as I document the meal

  • Sunday dinner is offered with BYO

  • So you can bring your own wine with no corkage fee

  • Mash has an unassuming exterior and inside we were presented with a reception desk

  • Our menu arrived with a nice steak selection

  • The waiter said this particular Wagyu was from a bunch of beer drinking

  • I thought the whole beer/massage was just a myth but the waiter was assured this in his testimony

  • Among the choice were American corn fed

  • Being a kiwi I obviously went for the Danish grass fed (kiwi's are bought up on grass fed beef) and chic geek tried the american corn

  • Its not doubt the steaks are the main attraction but I like to test all facets and ordered a salad and the scallop for starters

  • Meanwhile we dived into the wine selection and I can say the quality of the wines were excellent by the glass

  • When our starters arrived we were presented with a small dish of scallops that had been perfectly cooked and had a distinct stripe appearance

  • A lovely soft fleshy centre with a lemon butter taste

  • With slight aniseed from what I think was charred fennel

  • I mean there really was not much effort to make this dish look any better than a standard salad

  • The dressing was creamy with a kick of horse radish(

  • The Danish Longbone was very sizeable

  • Was more soft texture with a cleaner lighter taste

  • This really is for serious steak fans

  • Seasoned well both steaks were and it was obvious they had been lovingly nursed to perfection by the chef

  • It really is too salty to eat with the steaks

  • The shallots made them deliciously sweet and I loved that they were topped with almonds

  • Given that Mash has lovely dining rooms with an impressive wine cellar

  • It had been nowhere near an oven with all the usual blow torch hallmarks barely keeping its shape and within a minute the meringue had turned runny

  • It was only the blow torched parts left with any structure and now sitting lifeless in a pool of melting egg whites

  • It seems that they were great with steaks (they have sourced excellent produce undoubtedly)

  • Attentive and excellent but as always these places are let down in that ability to ensure that every dish on the menu is 5 star not just the main attractions

  • At the prices they are charging with that amount of floor space to fill with some many great restaurants in Soho

  • I'm sure they are trying their hardest

  • Maybe this was just a minor oversight because their standard is very high but if I was looking to take business folk here

  • Mash Steakhouse is for the discerning diner but is it over priced

  • They do pre theatre menu's so there is some reprieve

  • The steaks are absolutely incredible

  • The service is high standard and it is a beautifully staged restaurant inside with plenty of private dining

  • The restaurant itself is located two floors underground

  • Example there are no table cloths and the food served directly in cast iron pans

  • The waiters are all smartly dressed and very polite

  • Mash potato with onion and bacon

  • Special mention to the bread which was incredibly good

  • The restaurant is loud either because of the music or the cheers coming from the bar and surrounding tables

  • It wasn't a big hassle for us and I enjoyed the lively atmosphere as opposed to some restaurants that are too quiet and awkward

  • Ve chosen to have a late weekend lunch after emptying the bank account at neighbouring Regent St and clearly this is outside of peak dining times

  • The service was perfectly acceptable and the decor is fantastic but due to the sheer size of the dining room

  • Over the last few years I have walked past MASH on Brewer Street in Soho hundreds of times without knowing what it was or what they served

  • From the outside the corner site is unassuming

  • On entering the Apple computers and clean and modern reception suggests that some serious money was spent on the decor

  • As we were lead downstairs to the dining room we were shocked at the size and spacious grand interior

  • The ceiling is very high with a stunning bar area

  • The latter being two different grades of wagyu with ambitious prices for 200g servings

  • The steak that caught our eye was the 1.3kg American Omaha porterhouse

  • Starters were a bit underwhelming but the steaks are huge and the sides were surprisingly good

  • The wine list is super impressive but if you're up for a rather good time

  • T realise until later this was a Mafia hangout

  • The fabulous steaks at Sparks are such a high standard that anything else would have to be pretty damn good in comparison

  • It dawned on me this was the former home of the Atlantic Bar and Grill

  • Back in the 90s it was one of the few places to have a late licence where you could sit a drink without being overpowered by music

  • The expensive renovation has kept all the original features while managing to feel like an upmarket American diner with slide along bench seats and moody low lighting

  • On the way to the table we were shown the various raw cuts in the cool cabinet including various appetising cuts from Denmark

  • Single sheet is all that was needed

  • Fried Squid with Sweet chilli dip accompanied with the Keystone Chardonnay 2011

  • When mixed with a large swig of Malbec was ecstasy in my mouth

  • My first thought was would you really eat something that&rsquo

  • The wine list is a fantastic read

  • The rich creamy vanilla was perfectly complimented by the fruity sharpness of the Sorbet

  • With the private dining areas and pricey vintage wines perhaps they are hoping corporate market may be enough to carry them through

  • The service is polite and superb provided by a mixture of local staff and experienced people bought over from their successful restaurants in Denmark

  • T know these guys were in Piccadilly Circus

  • So winning the voucher was not only a perfect way to check Mash (Soho) out but also treat a dear friend to an overdue birthday meal

  • We went for the Wagyu sirloins with sides of super creamy spinach

  • Ve had bone marrow at Hawksmoor but definitely prefer the way the bone marrow was made at Mash

  • I loved the crunchy pieces of bread with every bite

  • The spinach was sooo creamy a bit too rich for my liking

  • The chilli fries were a perfect accompaniment and the chilli had a real kick to it

  • Both of us were pigs so ordered our own portions

  • As we all know steak is somewhat expensive in London and quality steak such as Wagyu is even more sky high in price (for the average individuals such as myself)

  • I reckon there is probably more than 200 seats

  • It certainly feels like it especially with a private room

  • S as the steak were set to be very large in portions

  • The tiger prawns were rather small in my opinions

  • I was secretly hoping there were Japanese ones as there was a 50% off all steak offer but our waiter informed us that it did not include the Wagyu&rsquo

  • S very American in terms of size and there was a choice of sauce to choose from

  • Both the steaks were Nebraskan certified and hormone free

  • There were some almonds with the fresh picked beans along with the shallots

  • They were spicy and tasted nice and personally I believe it went well with the green beans because one has a stronger taste than the other so it balanced out

  • We assumed our steak were from the same corn fed cow but my one wasn&rsquo

  • One of our steak were a little more saltier

  • T order the Wagyu (namely myself) and you can tell the quality of the two meats were excellent in quality

  • T order the desserts as we were short on time and at the same time

  • The focus for MASH was the dining rooms and their impressive wine cellar which we didn&rsquo

  • How MASH Steakhouse is managing with the high rent prices in Soho and how they will be able to fill the whole of the restaurant

  • One of the best I have ever eaten

  • The service is very attentive and quick

  • The service on a quiet evening was highly attentive and noteworthy was the knowledge of the waiting staff of the menu and the large number of different steak types and sauces

  • American steakhouse with a Danish twist&rdquo

  • One of the best places for Steak in London

  • The best meat I had here was the Australian Tomahawk steak with fries

  • The service is highly attentive with great attention to detail

  • Vast dining room with glass windows showcasing the various types of meat and their excellent wine cellar with some very rare wine on display

  • The restaurant is stunning and very impressive (so big

  • Service is excellent and we managed to get very decent food as vegetarians as well with a mix of starters and sides

  • A lot of attention is paid not only to the food

  • This is an unsuspecting white building and on entering there is a desk and spiral stairways

  • I had no idea Mash (Soho) was so huge and so fantastic

  • The setting was only missing some jazz music but I loved the vibe as soon as I stepped in

  • Each table is a booth which is very cool and handy

  • Yet despite that it has Danish roots so I was thoroughly confused about what to expect

  • A 50% off all steaks (except Wagyu) summer special was too good to resist and I rallied a crew to head down for a bit of a meat feast

  • I also owed Avi a steak dinner after he thrashed me on the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge run by a solid two minutes so this was a win worth of Charlie Sheen

  • The atmosphere is very nice and it looks to be back in the 30s

  • Sometimes a bit noisy but it is the perfect place for a romantic dinner

  • Nice cocktails at the bar with a good gin selection

  • The cocktail menu at MASH is fairly extensive and the drinks are of consistently good quality

  • It is quite odd that there is no option for a straight filet though

  • I have found that the batter on the onion rings is too thick and tends to absorb too much oil

  • Most things however are done quite well and I do think this is one of the better places to get steak in the area

  • We were enjoying the pleasure of a belly stuffed with prime steak and discussing the mysteries surrounding meat

  • The steaks were delicious and tender

  • The lobster tempura and the prawns Japanese as starters were really nice

  • All the food was very well presented and very tasty
