Lokkanta Meze & Barbeque (Bayswater)

• I can't remember for the life of me what was there before)
• Lokkanta's food is uncomplicated
• Portions you might want to consider sharing with a mate if you're anything short than ravenous
• The smoked aubergine cream was my favourite
• The Turkish bread that came with the meze also deserves a mention
• Slathered in butter and seasoned with chilli and herbs
• Works a treat with the cold meze
• It came with a side of boiled bulgur wheat garnished with tomato sauce
• As the menu suggested the mains would come with rice (my favourite side to Middle Eastern food)
• It could have been made with plain supermarket bought passata
• What's available is similar to what you may see on a Lebanese menu with different names and spices
• Tomato based salsa and some pickled vegetable salad with thin strips of lavash like bread complimentary while we waited for our food
• The lamb borek was lovely mildly flavoured meat in a beautiful crisp outside tender inside pastry wrap
• Brother ordered the lamb chops which came with a small side salad on a bed of larger grain couscous
• No Apple flavour just served in a traditional Turkish shaped tea glass) brother had the ayran (yoghurt drink) which was pre packaged
• Their pastry layers are much thinner than most baklava that I've tried in this city almost filmy
• This was a more refined version and hence the nuts were really finely crushed
• We also got 2 pieces of lokum (Turkish delight) complimentary with our bill and it was so good
• To be fair the place is an excellent value for money and the staff are generous
• A lunch meal I was offered some dips and salad and bread for free
• The doner kebab was very dry though and lacked that succulent taste that makes doner so delicious
• We were told by the wait staff at another nearby restaurant that there was no possible way to make even its vegetarian options vegan
• The dishes were served with pita bread
