Big Fernand (Fitzrovia)

• Big Fernand is a VERY French hamburger concept
• Their gaff is staffed with a huge number of stereotypically moustachioed
• The burger is wrapped in branded
• Greaseproof paper and served on a plastic tray along with a tubular cardboard pot of Fernandines and a drink
• Dry cured streaky bacon is magnifique
• It's a very different beast to most of the other burgers on offer across London with the layers of sweet and salt building on the palate to form a fantastic refined flavour
• The beef in the Big Fernand burgers is frankly awesome
• Merges perfectly with the toppings it's been paired with giving layers of flavour rolling across your tongue
• There's no question of you not having it cooked to order either with 'blue rare' an option on the menu you can have it done however you want
• They've also put a rose veal burger on the menu paired with a fennel mayonnaise
• Oversize bun is actually the perfect wrapper to what is effectively a burger pie
• The filling to which is everything we've already covered above
• Sesame seeded bun sourced from a London baker and spread liberally inside with the two homemade sauces
• While the rest of the bun is fluffy and light
• The bonus to this is it also makes it super easy to eat with one hand as it moulds itself around the whole ensemble
• The Fernandines are french cut fries
• They're fine with a decent crunch
• Cheese and beef are exceptional

• Now this was one we were keen to try and have been following with a watchful eye for a while

• As the various cheeses involved are such integral ingredients

• The chips are hand cut and the French cheeses are so superior to a processed slice of Monterey Jack
• All of the vegetables in your burger are grilled to avoid that cold
• I love those Californian inspired eateries but Big Fernand (Fitzrovia) is somewhere you can actually go with a date and not slobber burger juice down your hands

• They really are French or at the very least can do a very convincing accent) bedecked in stripy shirts and flat caps
• I was handed a menu and it was explained to me that I could choose either one of several options or I could create my own burger
• I settled myself down on a bench (check out their stools with added French phrases) and didn't have to wait long at all for my burger
• I'd barely had time to check in on Zomato before it was in front of me
• Hidden inside is a real treat

• Upstairs is a cosy living room space which is completely unexpected for a burger restaurant (or at least any burger restaurant I've ever been to)
• I do like the blue cheese but the patty is not that great quality (and over cooked as well) and the bun a bit dry
• Underwhelming burger which was overcooked and lacking any real care and attention
• A perfunctory bun and the patty was overworked and dry
• Somehow the burger was ready in a few minutes which suggests that it had bizarrely been pre cooked
• Not as bad as some places out there as there was a modicum of flavour but certainly not a destination for me

• I went for the Valentines special 'Le Valentin' topped with wild mushrooms
• Sweet mayonnaise and Neufchatel cheese with chives and truffle oil in a poppy seed bun
• The drink I tried was odd it was their own brand elixir menthe and citron cordial
• The staff were friendly and keen to assist with the menu options
• Downstairs is quite open
• Yet to the back around the corner is a nice intimate table for a larger group
• Big Fernand is definitely one you should check out

• Was a burger place neither of us had heard of that was getting wonderful reviews
• Big Fernand is big on quality ingredients and freshness
• Over the course of the two days we managed to make our way around four restaurants and one of my favourites was this beautiful creation
• The Big Fernand is apparently THE place for burgers over in Paris and it's now made its way across the channel to challenge our perceptions of what a good burger should be
