BúnBúnBún (Hoxton)

• Garlands of bare bulbs mixed with industrial lighting fixtures
• Oak tables with metal legs reminiscent of school desks and artfully mismatched chairs
• The herbs were all extremely fresh and robust with plenty of perilla leaf
• Spring roll and lettuce leaves (for wrapping the meat) were presented on a large plate
• The pork patties and pork loin were served separately floating in the bowl of nuoc cham
• Both of the meats were beautifully char grilled
• The spring roll was exceptionally crisp
• The nuoc cham came with little dishes of grated garlic and chopped chillies
• This was the best Bun Cha I have ever had
• Who has been to Hanoi a couple of times said it was the best Bun Cha in her memory too
• 3 per person is rather hefty
• Regardless of whether everyone is having BYO wine
• BunBunBunboasts an Extensive and varied menu with lots of delights to the excite the senses
• The portion sizes are massive and not just bulked out with the cheapest part of the dish
• My pho came with tonnes of fresh herbs and vegetables on the side which allowed me to alter the flavour completely to my taste
• Alex's intriguing bahn mi salad was unlike anything I have seen before
• The noodles were served cold with an overflowing plate of lettuce wraps
• Next to this was a steaming bowl of pork meat patties in a stunning hot dressing
• The idea for this salad is to allow you to mix and match flavour combinations and have a different experience with each bite
• The salt and pepper squid starter was amazingly tasty with fresh lime juice and soft
• The summer rolls are served with
• I had chicken Satay and summer rolls with prawns that were both very good
• Main course I tried some sauteed noodles with chicken (cant remember the name) that were also very good
• I had the vegetarian/tofu pho which is quite a meal for one
• My fave ones are the crab and tomatoes pho and sauted tofu and aubergine rice meal set
• Got there just after 8 for dinner on a weekday and there was still a queue out the door
• Queue management was TOTAL CHAOS
• We ended up waiting half an hour for a seat (and we were just a small party of 3)
• The waiter (guy with shoulder length hair and the attitude of a surfer dude) who finally seated us admitted that he was (in his words) "
• No efforts were made to rectify the situation
• By which time we were beyond famished and couldn't stay long since we all had work the next day
• Every time we spoke with a waiter about the problem
• The surfer dude waiter is likely going to hang around
• So the awful queue management and terrible service is likely to continue
• There are so many other good Vietnamese restaurants along this road I wouldn't take the risk with Bunbunbun anymore
