  • Price wise it's pretty cheap too I paid 30 pounds for a meal for two with starter and drinks

  • Two essentials for me are Pho and Bun Xa and Cay Tre nails them

  • The reason I would really recommend them for lunch is the terrific food

  • The standard dishes (namely Pho and Bun) are really well executed

  • Evidence of their attention for detail is the use of different dipping sauces for different dishes

  • The way the staff and management kept glaring at the empty seats was really annoying

  • The tables (especially downstairs) are really crammed close together

  • Do so when the atmosphere is more chilled at lunchtime

  • Unless you are in a hurry to get to the theatre and don't mind being rushed

  • I was recommended Cay Tre near Old Street (not to be confused with the slightly posher place with the same name in Soho) by my new team at work when looking for somewhere for a work lunch

  • The lunch menu is great value

  • Summer rolls are always a must

  • Here they arrive packed full of prawns and zingy herbs with the obligatory nuoc cham dip

  • Pig on a stick is a delightful juicy pork skewer

  • The red sea king prawn bun noodles is fantastic a huge vat of a bowl bursting with flavour

  • The service is speedy and without too much fuss and pleasantries

  • So when London Curry Blog picked Vietnamese food at Cay Tre for dinner I was hoping we were on to a winner

  • My company admitted that a fork might be needed at some point which I'm pretty sure is a bit of a faux pas for a foodie

  • Service was a little slow to begin with but our waiter was wearing some epic spotty trousers which made up for it

  • We both agreed are the two best curry vegetables

  • The food wasn't the best I've ever had

  • There I was last night with a group of hungry friends in Hoxton and Cay Tre presented itself

  • The one thing I will say though is that the tables are too close together

  • The spring rolls were good and took the word crispy to a whole new level

  • Served rolled up with chilli inside and was unbelievably tasty

  • It is served at lukewarm temperature (on purpose) as is the custom in Vietnam

  • There were a few occasions where my lips were on fire after accidental encounters with chilli

  • Me it is almost a cross between Thai and Chinese with a French influence in the mix

  • A table was prepared for us and we were seated promptly

  • Our food all came out gradually and I got agitated because I wanted to eat my food whilst it was still warm

  • The people I was with didn't really enjoy their food because I guess the flavours were too strange

  • Our waitress was very friendly

  • The single grilled scallop to start was ok but lacked flavour

  • Saturday night is very busy at Cay Tre in Shoreditch unsurprisingly so given it makes delicious Vietnamese food at decent prices

  • The food was sickeningly sweet there was a lot of sugar in my meal so it was barely edible

  • The worst part was they swooped in to take away our plates the second we were finished and dropped off the bill without asking if we wanted anything else

  • Then a couple of minutes later she came back to ask us to pay and leave because there were people waiting for a table

  • We could hear him telling them that we were taking too long and that our table was theirs as soon as we left

  • The fault I found with Cay Tre (Hoxton) is that the staff were rude and did not miss a beat in clearing the table as soon as id put the final bite in my mouth

  • Cay Tre ranks amongst the best Vietnamese restaurants in London but I question why

  • The food was mediocre with a few oh so good dishes to spare

  • Whilst I lasted as long as I could with the drinks courtesy of the company tab (that&rsquo

  • Cay Tre was around the corner and the crowd level was appropriate and suggested the fare was fair

  • The queueing and service were crappy but the food came soon enough and I enjoyed it

  • I could have done with richer flavours and more char on the meat

  • Mien Tay and Song Que are well known here and so it sounds like I'd eventually eat at them all anyway

  • We ordered one of the bowls and lemongrass chicken with egg fried rice as mains and prawn crackers and dumplings for starters

  • The starters were below the expectations
