The ambiance is uniquely modern and has not pretense about it they clearly want you to focus your attention on the food
-
Main course don't forget to try the Char grilled chicken jawa the chicken pieces are worth their price in gold
-
I went there for a birthday's dinner with friends and it deserves respect for its quality food
-
Banana Tree is a really good restaurant
-
Banana tree boasts a really nice atmosphere and is nicely decorated
-
The service when i went was very kind and patient which i really appreciated
-
Banana trees food is really delicious and very generous portions are served
-
The prices are to be fair decent and unsurprising for the area
-
An industrial setting (again something which seems to have a fan following) with factory pipes and an overhead pulley made me wish that food on the long communal tables be served by the pulley
-
That was not to be but the servers were efficient and all smiles
-
The Nem Noung Coriander Meatballs as appetizers and Crispy Chicken with Mango &
-
I am loath to go say that Banana Tree (Soho) is an absolute must
-
The place is a fast food restaurant with a posh price tag
-
There are few things to cheer you up The restaurant is almost always packed on weekends and the service is slow and inefficient
-
The least you would expect is a helpful advice from the waiters unfortunately that was not the case there
-
The starters were superb but for mains
-
Most dishes we ordered were a let down
-
The menu is quite a nice departure from the Thai / Chinese restaurants (thousands of these are in London anyway)
-
Also my wife is pure vegetarian
-
A long queue was just waiting to be seated
-
We not only had a hard time explaining our orders to them but to ask for a simple glass of water was a task in itself
-
My vegetarian friends were surely disappointed
-
We ended up sending a few dishes back to the kitchen and were not even offered an alternative
-
Paying off the bill was another headache
-
I can testify that SOME dishes are pretty authentic
-
The place was bustling but there were one or two tables free
-
I didn't even know that this is a chain restaurant
-
Both of them were quite tasty
-
What matters to me is that the food was good
-
I ordered the pudding with the coconut ice cream which was absolutely delicious and recommended
-
Ginger Stir fry with Beef with the combo patter
-
We went at Sunday lunchtime (one of their quietest times I was told on the phone when making my reservation and again on arrival)
-
More people arrived while we were having lunch
-
So although it was not buzzing we did get a idea of the type of clientele that were attracted to the restaurant
-
The restaurant with its distinctive Urban Chic design focuses on food from the Indochina region and the menu is certainly inviting with some appetising sounding dishes
-
The Aubergine with Aromatic Caramel sauce was by far the most interesting of the dishes we sampled nice flavour combinations
-
The self assembly Vietnamese lettuce wrap with spiced lamb didn't work for us
-
It was a bit dry and we felt it was missing something to bind the ingredients together although the pickled vegetables were nice
-
The Pad Thai was unfortunately bland and lukewarm
-
Wardour Street is a tough location for a restaurant
-
A quick visit to Banana Tree was perhaps a misguided choice when looking for a quick and cheap pre cinema meal
-
My beef rendang was overloaded with flavour
-
The atmosphere is a gentle break from bustling Soho outside
-
Would recommend it as a place to go with for group outings
-
The food was also very nicely prepared with great flavour (and it's halal bonus
-
I was pleased with the portion size for how much I was paying
-
I had the chicken laksa as a starter and a pad thai with tofu for my main
-
Accompanied with the mix fruit with a twist
-
The staff were friendly but were not very good at clearing up empty plates and glasses
-
All in all it was an alright experience
-
Banana Tree is a restaurant situated on Wardour Street offering Pan Asian cuisine
-
The only downside being that the service was quite slow
-
Dishes you might not be familiar with all of which are tasty as
-
Whilst the place was not too busy
-
So his beef rendang was served with rice
-
The laksa broth was the coconut based curry type of broth
-
The portion was actually pretty huge
-
What took the cake was the Vietnamese spring rolls which came with an instruction card about how to have them
-
The redang curry is one of their specialities
-
The green curry is great for all kinds of pallets
-
Jasmine rice with most mains
-
Mains seafood Kari sentan melayu (prawns and tilapia fish fillets gently cooked with aubergine and tofu in a traditional Malaysian blended red curry sauce)
-
Steamed to perfection with lemongrass and Thai basil ) and Banana tree spiced noodles
-
Having been to Banana Tree I can rightfully say I do know what it is and it is brilliant
-
Also rude staff with poor service time
-
This restaurant is a good overall experience
-
I personally prefer the Watford branch more but since that branch is no more the Soho one is the next closest to me
-
I drank Tiger which is Singapore beer
-
Prawns and extra prawns instead of meat balls( Cus I didn't choose to eat pog this night ) the waiter boy was so good in hosting and service
-
Ambience is super important to these guys lighting is kind of dim
-
I think I'm used to the prawn crackers back in Asia which are white/almost translucent and mild tasting
-
Laksa itself was really nice
-
Knocked a few points down because service is pretty weak
-
Not sure if it was because the restaurant was busy or because I was a solo diner
-
Whatever it was I wasn't too impressed
-
With a brilliant array of veggie and vegan options which are clearly labelled on the menu
-
It also helps that all there restaurants are indeed halal
-
My favorite dish on their menu is their Laska which is a rich coconut broth with vegetables
-
The serving size is very big and it is not the most graceful dish to eat but it's so worth it
-
I've also tried their Beef Pad Thai which was equally good
-
The serving size for the drinks is way too small for the actual price so paying half price seems more reasonable to me
-
Usually the lunch meal serving size is much smaller than the normal one but in Banana Tree you get your large serving size which I greatly appreciate
-
Their desserts are also amazing
-
I have also tried the Chocolate Fondant with Coconut Ice Cream and Passion Fruit
-
The fondant is very heavy and the tart fruit cuts perfectly through it when paired with the ice cream
-
So we went here for lunch and got were directed to a table
-
Even though we were there early and ordered before many of the tables nearby
-
Worth mentioning is that the people around were getting their food before us which is strange
-
The restaurant is known for being a fusion of Asian cuisines Malaysian
-
Banana Tree is a small chain of restaurants serving food from Indochina
-
They have a separate vegetarian menu with an excellent range for non meat eaters
-
We got here on lazy Saturday afternoon and were really hungry
-
So of course this was my choice during dinner in Banana Tree
-
Carrot and broccoli) and the chicken was great very juicy and soft
-
Size of the serving is just enough to feel full
-
Greencurry alone was perfectly spicy and aromatic
-
The only thing I'd change is to add more curry itself I prefer it when curry is more liquid
-
Anyway it was a really tasty visit
-
Banana Tree Soho is one of seven branches in London specialising in Indochinese cuisine
-
I visited on a Monday and it was fully packed with a nice atmosphere
-
The curry was fantastic with plenty of meat and vegetables &ndash
-
Could just do with slightly more sauce
-
The buy one get one free offer is so gooooooood that I end up drinking so much
-
The mains I ordered the legendary rendang (chicken) combo which is a huge portion I was struggling to finish
-
Fried corn balls and salad which was a good balance
-
The restaurants featured on the program are largely chain based
-
So this is my first experience with that in hand
-
BananaTree is located in the heart of Soho making it an ideal spot to catch up with a friend from the office
-
Money bags along with our mains of the beef rendang curry and the pad thai
-
The rendang was just above average
-
The first store opened a staggering twenty one years ago and now its eight stores it may have traded that authenticity with domination
-
Vibrant atmosphere and this is only completed by the size of the crowd
-
The waiter was rude and not welcoming at all
