Thai Orchid (Old Town)

• Just before boarding train I decided to taste some non european food and incidentally I was standing before this Thai restaurant
• I was greeted with a broad smile by the host as I entered the restaurant
• Mostly non asian people were enjoying the food
• I started with mixed rice which was served inside pineapple shell
• Overall the restaurant is really nice and I might visit them again whenever I am in Edinburgh
• I booked a table for 5pm for 3 and was running late so I let them know
• Both times they were really friendly
• The outside of the restaurant was really lovely and inside is even better
• The restaurant was decorated with traditional Thai pieces
• The starter we got was yummy and was very well presented
• The dips for the starter food were really delicious too
• The portion size was spot on &
• The waiters were really lovely and attentive throughout
• 69 which was okay between 3 people with the amount of food we got &
• I love that this is a proper family run
• This was MUCH better than your typical Chinese take away the chicken was deliciously chargrilled and the sauce was wonderfully fresh
• The peaches in the curry were delightful
• This is quite a small place so if you are planning to go at the weekend book ahead
• On the quest for the best Thai in Edinburgh
• We continued with a trip to thai orchid
• The curry itself was delicious and not too hot
• We got rice to share and the portion we got was more than enough
• I ordered the Moo Ping (grilled pork with sweet chilli sauce) and the beef massaman curry
• The the appetizer was served alongside the main dish which was a little confusing
• There was something not quite right with the massaman curry
• I couldn't tell if it was cooked at too high of a temp or if there was too much curry paste
• The banana fritter served at the end was pretty good
• The ice cream was pretty cheap
• Thai Orchid (Old Town) is tucked away right in the heart of theold town (tourist district) behind the castle but a step away from the hustle bustle
• Thai Orchid (Old Town) serves only Thai food and the food is mouthwatering abd top notch quality
• Service is quick and the staff is very friendly and helpful
• You can wash it down with Thai Cold tea or Singha (Thai beer)
• The service was indifferent
• Thai Orchid (Old Town) was close to our hotel so we stopped in
• We each had the tom kha gai (American bastardization of actual name) which was flavorful and the chicken was so tender and delicious
• We shared the panang curry as we were no longer very hungry it would have been the perfect portion for one
• We added a jasmine rice which was perfectly cooked
• Wine was good and all prices were reasonable
• The place is very cozy and we choose it due to the fact that it was near to our home and we wanted to have some Asian food
