  • I had been to Chaophraya on a previous (albeit cold and wet) occasion and was in awe of the rooftop views

  • Two of our favourite cuisines here at EdinBlogger are Mexican and Thai

  • My chicken green curry along with jasmine rice was incredible

  • Nice and creamy with a good chilli kick

  • It tasted so fresh and the chicken was perfectly cooked

  • The pork was crispy and there was plenty of chilli to get the party started

  • Whilst the green curry was delightful I may be tempted by the pork belly on my text visit

  • All the staff were genuinely friendly without it feeling forced or over the top

  • I would say it was well worth it

  • If you are going on a sunny day then the roof terrace is a great wee spot to relax with a few drinks

  • All the drinks were well made and a great way to end the day whilst enjoying the sunset

  • Chaophraya is located on Castle Street and at first it&rsquo

  • We were greeted by our host and told our table was just being cleaned and would be ready in a few minutes

  • The place was a hive of activity and there was hardly an empty table

  • Soon our table was ready and we were shown to our seat

  • You'll want to show up with a reservation

  • Icy cocktail with a view of the city here

  • The pad thai noodles were cooked perfectly

  • Left us wishing there was more of it

  • The hustle and bustle of the Edinburgh Festivals during August are enough to give anyone cabin fever

  • So finding somewhere new was quite a delight for s

  • The restaurant is only accessible via an elevator that takes you up into the Edinburgh skyline

  • He's fallen quite in love with soups at the moment

  • Chaophraya have partnered with rum brand Ron Zacapa Centenario to create a new Terrace Menu

  • It was served with a light peanut sauce but was just as good without it

  • Been marinated with lime and peanut

  • Had kept the flavour of both and was perfectly moist

  • I was also impressed with the deep fried pork meatballs served on a tiny sliver of pineapple

  • With a meaty flavour that was offset by the sweet zing of the pineapple

  • More disappointing was the duck salad

  • Delicate baskets of golden tempura containing flaked cod and pomegranate seeds were closer to the mark for me

  • The baskets were crispy and the cod was sweet with palm sugar and kaffir lime

  • Whilst the sweetness was moreish it was also overpowering

  • The flavours of fish and lime were very well balanced

  • Our attentions were turned to the stars of the night

  • The smoking Pina Colada was a firm favourite

  • The bell jar was removed with a flourish and a puff of smoke

  • A tall glass filled with a pretty cocktail

  • Vanilla sugar and pineapple juice was surprisingly refreshing and not too sweet or strong

  • Glowing pinky red and topped with a blackberry

  • Pale and finished with chilled grapes

  • Recently I was invited to Chaophraya to eat Thai accompanied with Glenfiddich whisky

  • Whisky and food matching is a challenge

  • Re used to drinking wine with food whisky can seem too strong

  • Chaophraya is at the top of 33 Castle Street

  • A great location with great views

  • A glass cube with a view of Edinburgh castle

  • Poured over ice and server with a wedge of frozen pear

  • Refreshing aperitif and is my new favourite way to drink Glenfiddich

  • A 29 year old whisky created for the Walking with the Wounded charity&rsquo

  • Spirit of a Nation is a great dram

  • The first course was golden baskets

  • Crisp rice tartlets with a mix of cod and coley in a honey

  • The tartlet shells were light and crisp

  • The salad was dressed with a chili dressing that was savoury

  • The sourness of lime and heat of the chili with the crunchy salad and the rich duck meat

  • Weeping Tiger with rice at Chaopraya Restaurant

  • A sirloin steak served with a chili dipping sauce

  • Rice and drizzled with a pepper sauce

  • The dipping sauce was tart and hot

  • The fluffy white rice was great for mopping up the last bits of sauce

  • Essert was sherry poached pears with meringue and vanilla ice cream

  • The Solera cask is never completely emptied

  • The result is a smooth and complex whisky that I really enjoyed

  • I came here again on Sunday for lunch and a catch up with old friends

  • I really enjoyed the food along with the extremely polite staff &

  • We ate from the lunch menu which I thought was very good value for money at around £

  • We did book in advance and it was quite busy

  • Not as busy as it is in the evening

  • The views of Edinburgh Castle (If seated in the correct area) are superb and you really feel like you are just escaping the busy streets below and being transported somewhere else

  • We booked through this website also through the 'book online' option which was so easy and straightforward

  • This was my 2nd visit to Chaophraya Edinburgh and I have to say the food and service was excellent as always

  • I definitely recommend getting the Asian platter to share for a starter or the tempura prawns which are the best I've ever had

  • When she found out we were celebrating my sisters graduation she insisted on bringing her a little treat to congratulate her so she brought over a lovely glass of bubbly which was a really nice touch

  • As there was over 20 of us it was a set menu

  • I was quite wary of this as I know set menus can have very limited choices however I was not disappointed

  • Each course bought out were platters of such a variety of food to choose from

  • There was a slight problem as some of the group did not eat pork but the situation was rectified straight away and alternatives were given

  • My favourites were the chicken skewers to start with however I couldn't choose a main as they were all so good

  • Dessert was ok only had one choice which was a fruit fondue

  • The bar staff are super attentive and seem to enjoy what they do

  • Will definitely be returning as there was so much I wanted to try of the main menu

  • We decided to go for a South African white (which was under £

  • Starter I chose tempura prawns with chilli dip and Jamie had scallops and black pudding with chilli

  • Jamies scallops were cooked perfectly

  • His only complaint was the black pudding to scallop ratio was a little out so either smaller black pudding portions or a few more scallops would balance it our perfectly

  • My tempura prawns were divine and the chill sauce

  • Potentially the best I've ever had

  • The sticky rice was sticky and quite hard to get out the bowl

  • Our dishes were promptly cleared and dessert menus brought out

  • To be honest we were both nicely full so decided not to push it as we were going out for a few more drinks

  • Jamies complaint would be that they were supposed to bring out a slice of cake with a candle for my birthday once they'd delivered the dessert menus and it didn't happen

  • Presentation is as important as taste

  • So I only fork out for Thai when it tastes good and it's a special occasion (I was spoiled for a month by three Thai matriarchs

  • Our decision to go here was very spontaneous which meant that we hadn't booked a table but the staff still found us a table which we could have for 2 hours

  • The atmosphere of Chaophraya is very welcoming

  • It was a generous portion and the mix of sweet corncakes with the spicy chili was delightful

  • Specifically asked if the Beef in black pepper sauce was spicy and the waitress reassured him that it was a bit hot but not spicy

  • Ordered chicken in a peanut sauce which is definitely a dish for the faint hearted as the flavoring is very mild and tasty

  • I only had a mouthful of it since I was feeling nice and swapped dishes with my dad so he wouldn't leave hungry

  • As a lover of Thai food I can easily say that it was one of the loveliest Thai restaurants I've been to

  • The restaurant in itself is gorgeous and visiting the restaurant is an excellent to dress up fancy

  • The portions were so large that we couldn't finish them between the two of us

  • The only thing I'd say is the restaurant is pricey (and for good reason

  • It's one of the 10 best restaurants in Edinburgh

  • Chaophraya is perfectly located for beautiful views

  • Chaophraya does its best to feel like one of a kind

  • The restaurant is beautifully decorated

  • We opted for the Asian platter to start and they were very accommodating with letting us order for two people but share between three

  • I have to say my favourite was the marinated pork as it was juicy and full of flavour

  • T think any of us were disappointed

  • The lime and chilli sauce was a masterpiece and really brought the dish alive

  • The jungle fish curry was hot (as warned on the menu) and was enjoyed happily

  • The massaman was also enjoyed

  • The bananas were about as comforting as you can get

  • The fondue was getting stuck into

  • Fruit was served with a small pot of chocolate that the fruit could be dipped into

  • The service was lovely throughout

  • All the waiting and front of house staff were helpful and friendly

  • Located in the former Oloroso it has one of the absolute best locations in Edinburgh with amazing views

  • The welcome is very warm as are the furnishings

  • The Service is top notch and I just can't get enough of Chaophraya (New Town)

  • They also have a private room for dining with castle view

  • The waitress did mix up our order though but what we got while a surprise was still really good

  • Great for a cocktail too with some interesting new ones on the menu and a good wine list too

  • The only problem here is that they always say they are full when the restaurant is pretty empty

  • Wont let you sit on the terrace event when noone comes to sit at the tables out there throughout your meal and are a bit snobby

  • That's very important for me and was not disappointed

  • Our server was professional

  • Not into your face but always was there when needed

  • Usually end up with a table close to the kitchen

  • The scallop and black pudding starter is quite a belly filler

  • Had the green curry it was fab the jungle fish curry is very nice as one our friends had this and I tried it

  • This is the best thai food in Edinburgh

  • The food has so much flavour and the staff were all helpful

  • We had the crispy pork belly with thai basil for main and the thai pancakes for desert which were both really delicious

  • The first thing you notice are the excellent views of Edinburgh Castle and the sleek cocktail baresque decor

  • Perfectly reset able so far and the cocktails and service were also excellent

  • The set menu for the day is reasonably priced and worth the money but if you order of the a la crate it's not so good

  • This restaurant is located on the fourth floor of a building located on Castle Street and offers an amazing view of Edinburgh Castle if you are lucky enough to secure a table with a view

  • We were still able to get into the restaurant with only one day's notice

  • Edinburgh is a town with literally thousands of options for food

  • The service is impeccable

  • The signature cocktails are great to set the mood

  • If the weather is nice you can sit outside and since the whole place is on the roof of a building the views are great

  • Traditional Thai Currys are listed &ndash

  • Spicy Fried Rice with Chicken and Basil

  • It was the starters that caught my eye with classic dishes like Chicken Satay

  • So much to choose from but we settled on the Maeklong Platter which came with two chicken satay skewers with peanut sauce

  • 4 x chicken spring rolls and 2 x sweetcorn cakes with a sweet chilli dip

  • This look of this dish is impressive when delivered to the table

  • Its bright and colourful with the banana leaf adding to the vibrant plate of bites

  • We ate our way around the plate starting with the sweetcorn cakes

  • These were packed with sweetcorn kernels but we agreed they lacked seasoning

  • The one thing that let down this sharing platter was the spring rolls

  • They were stuffed full it was predominantly vegetables and they were bland

  • The Massaman Lamb Curry with coconut rice was jumping out the menu at me

  • Pieces of tender lamb stewed with massaman curry

  • Cinnamon and chillies and is one of the favourite dishes of the Thai Royal Family

  • The Massaman Curry was served in a cast iron dish

  • Whilst the Chicken Pad Thai was served with a glass cloche covering it

  • I think this was meant for drama and effect but it fell a bit flat

  • The cloche was filled with steam rather than smoke and was removed almost at the same time as the plate was set on the table

  • I think it was at least 10 minutes after arrival that I managed to pick my jaw up of the floor

  • This restaurant is stunningly beautiful

  • Walking past the 3 Buddhist statues with their hands outstretched

  • You feel like royalty before being warmly greeted by their front of house team who with their hands pressed together

  • Bowing forward slightly extend the Namaste greeting with large smiles

  • The wine list is excellent as is the bar area

  • After a disappointing meal in Chaophraya a couple to months ago we were persuaded to go back and give them a second chance

  • We had a perfect view of the castle which was a great start

  • Everything was so full of flavour

  • I visited this restaurant on Saturday with 3 friends and as usual had a great meal but it was very crowded and as I use a wheelchair I was made to feel uncomfortable

  • I could easily have caused a lot of damage to my wheelchair and also to the push chairs During the meal the service was poor to say the least

  • We went without a reservation but the staff was kind enough to get us a table on the outside right by the window

  • Vegetarian Springrolls very different flavour and was served with my favourite Thai sweet chilli sauce

  • The flavours are out of the world (5/5)

  • Ginger mushrooms expected there to be a variety of mushrooms cooked in a ginger sauce but there were bailies other veggies too

  • The flavours are to die for (5/5)

  • This is a great date place with a little bit of a &lsquo

  • Book in advance and ask to sit on the enclosed terrace with views of Edinburgh Castle
