Parpadelle with beef shin ragu
-
Tagliatelle with lemon &
-
Even though it is situated on a busy road on Highbury Corner
-
Even though it was a Tuesday night
-
The place was buzzing and the constant chatter coupled with the charming 1930s music played in the background gave it the ideal atmosphere
-
I opted for a starter of Grelot (sweet onions) with Goats Curd and Beetroot Crostini with Pine Nut and Lambs Lettuce salad while my diner went for the Bresaola with Rocket
-
The goats cheese and beetroot were smashed together to give almost a bright purple ricotta consisitency and went perfectly with the sweet onions and crunch of the crostini and pine nuts
-
My diners bresaola was sliced to perfection and really melted in the mouth
-
I decided to go for the Whole Mackerel with shaved Florence Fennel and a Brown Shrimp and Chervil salad
-
My companion ordered what I was also very tempted by the Black Hampshire Pork Chop with Borlotti Beans and Salsa Verde and after the first bite
-
Decided it was definitely the best pork he had ever eaten
-
The portion was very ample and probably one of the healthiest sized chops I&rsquo
-
Ve seen and the tanginess of the salsa verde and softness of the beans were a delightful accompaniment
-
As they really were incredible and I think I would go as far as to say
-
They were actually the best potatoes I&rsquo
-
The panna cotta was a perfect texture with a strong taste of fresh vanilla but I felt that the caramel coffee sauce was too heavy for such a delicate dessert and let it down slightly for me
-
The tiramisu however was a large plateful of all the right proportions not too heavy on the coffee or alcohol and just lovely
-
Trullo really is a delicious Italian restaurant that should be treasured and visited on those occasions when you want to feel happy and warm inside&hellip
-
This beautiful house in Puglia (a trullo is a is a traditional Apulian dry stone hut with a conical roof
-
Not since I was a north Londoner
-
Upstairs is lovely and cosy with a bit of a buzz
-
Downstairs is more romantic with a slower pace
-
The plates we ate off were the smallest plates we&rsquo
-
Hazelnut syrup and vodka and said it was the best drink he&rsquo
-
The wine menu was surprisingly lacking in Puglian wines
-
S one of those natural wines with less sulphites like they do at Meatballs
-
We started off with some Puglian olives £
-
The olives were plump and light
-
The serving of olive oil was so small that we ran out and didn&rsquo
-
The Bruschetta with slow cooked cuttlefish
-
(Castelfranco is like radicchio)
-
We mopped up every last drop with the sourdough
-
The Black Hampshire pork chop with Castelluccio lentils £
-
The dish I had heard the most about and was looking forward to the most was the Pappardelle with beef shin ragu £
-
It arrived with the Potatoes alla plancha with smoked paprika £
-
The pannacotta was perfectly silky smooth with the right amount of wobble
-
The cake moist with a gooey caramelised top
-
The sorbet was quite indistinguishable in flavour
-
I finished off with a Limoncello Cassano Limoncello 1875 (£
-
I found that I fell in love with the dishes that I least expected to
-
My tweets about our visit provoked a flurry of responses from people that have also had it on their list and were eager to know what it was like
-
With a claim from The Apposite that the Beef Shin Pappardelle was the best dish he had ever paid
-
There was no way I was going to miss out on this one
-
The interior reflects the simple yet perfectly prepared dishes we were about to experience
-
My choice had already been made for me but with one glance at the menu
-
We rather pathetically ordered a side salad to offset our approaching carb heavy meal but were very pleased when it arrived all lemony and with so many different leaves to choose from
-
The homemade pasta was some of the best we'd tasted
-
Islington is probably one of the best places in London
-
Im sure that none of what I mention is still on the menu
-
Cime de rape with bottarga and pangrattato
-
A rich and flavourful frittata with goats curd
-
Happily ended my meal with an almond and pear tart served with creme fraiche
-
I guessed immediately where we were going and was very much looking forward to it
-
Our waiter was friendly and explained each dish
-
Eventually I decided on Chopped Belted Galloway beef fillet with mustard and watercress to start
-
I couldn't tell from the long winded name but this was steak tartare
-
The hint of mustard was just the right amount and it went very well with watercress
-
My friends had mozzarella with figs and basil and pappardelle with beef shin ragu
-
Meanwhile we were enjoying a bottle of Sangiovese (red wine) which I recommend
-
Main I ordered mackerel with tomatoes and a soft boiled egg
-
You could almost imagine it being grilled until the skin was crispy and charred on an open flame near the sea
-
My friends enjoyed lamp rump with baked borlotti beans and lemon sole with spinach
-
Spinach is one of my favourite foods and this was so flavoursome it was possibly some of the best spinach I've ever had
-
Only because I've very recently had salted caramel ice cream that was out of this world
-
A small one at that) the Pappardelle with beef shin ragu was an absolute delight
-
Despite it being a Monday evening it was surprisingly packed
-
Poppedin for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by this pleace
-
I had leeks with almonds and then the lamb
-
The wine list has grown with confidence to keep up with the kitchen
-
) and there's no music to compete with the conversation
-
A classy neighbourhood Italian with a seasonal menu
-
The food is not very tasty and the ambience is not very pleasant
-
Overall experience was far beyond the expectations
