Star of India (South Kensington)

• Especially considering there are very little reviews on curry houses in London
• Reza now runs the restaurant with his brother who inherited it from their father
• Their father was one of the first to open a curry house in London with his first restaurant
• S still going strong in Piccadilly Circus and is now one of the oldest Indian restaurant in London
• We started off with some poppadoms and chutneys
• The poppadoms were probably the best I have ever had
• The coriander chutney in particular was mouth watering and the mango chutneys tartness complimented it perfectly
• Are marinated prawns in a saffron batter served with tamarind chutney on the side
• The prawns themselves were very large
• The batter was light and fluffy but little sign of saffron or any seasoning for that matter
• Cooked to perfection with a crisp buttery skin
• The paratha was a little thick and stodgy so steer clear
• The staff was quite obliging the whole time I was there and they were also pretty attentive
• The dishes as well as the drinks were reasonably priced and I would strongly recommend you all to try Star of India (South Kensington)
• This restaurant is where close to very I used to live but I had never given it a try
• I finally had the chance to do so last week and was very satisfied after my meal
• The standard of the food is clearly high and it is prepared with a lot of care
• The portions given are not very filling but that saves space to experiment with multiple dishes

• The reason why i decided to check Star of India (South Kensington) out was that it was mentioned by celebrity Hugh Grant

• The service staff too was pleasant and helpful with his recommendations when i had forgotten which chicken curry was Hugh's favorite
• I would say i did not like the intriguing service charge and the fact that the rice was charged separately even though at other places they are clubbed together with the curry
• Even when the food was pretty good
• One would expect courteous friendly staff but that is not the case
• The ambiance is lovely but discomforting
• My experience was pretty average after visiting this restaurant
• It was fully packed when I went there and would suggest you to make a reservation if you are planning to visit it some time
