Pelican Rum Bar (Croydon)

• Food was better (it was cooked this time
• ) but service was bad and very unpleasant experience for my guest too
• They were insistent that everything was paid for in advance
• They promised deserts and gave a group of 60 people 1 lemon cake cut into around 20 wafer thin slices with tins of fruit salad
• When we approached Management they were rude and the owner just blamed other staff members and her Managers
• Her Managers blamed the owners and it was a nightmare
• Such a shame as the actual venue is really nice
• Very shoddy and I am surprised they are still going
• The 'large' meal is one leg of dry
• Reheated bland chicken served with lettuce and rice
• 6.50 which is very overpriced
• Please check out other venues in Croydon this one is not worth it
• All the guests were very complimentary about the main menu and the venue itself especially the layout of the building and the outside space for smokers
• Some commented that that the lighting in the area where the food was served was too dark and therefore people were finding it difficult to distinguish what they were eating
• The background music whilst we were eating was enjoyable and appropriate for the occasion
• I felt that the venue was very pricey
• This was my 50th and I didn't mind paying over the top as I was promised that "
• As it was called was very small and very few guest were able to get second portions of food
• Macaroni cheese was ordered however a small family sized baking dish that could not feed a small family of 10
• I did NOT want any gateau's on the nght only roughly 10 apple crumbes were brought out with around 6 mini pots of ice creams (which incidentaly tasted very nice)
• A number of guests asked staff for more crumble and were told it was coming
• It never surfaced so my guests were deliberately mislead about this
• Two gateau's were consequently PLONKED on the table and when I later asked about the lack of desserts I was told that the bread pudding had burnt and gateau's were provided as a replacement
• My guest explained to me that they felt the proprietor was very RUDE and dismissive
• When a drink was accidently thrown away by the cleaner
• My friends up to this point had been extremely complimentary about the venue and were going to approach the owner discuss to possibe bookings for a small wedding and a 90th birthday party
• I've been to Pelican's twice and both times it was a less than average experience
• The first time I visited was during a friend's celebration and she had booked out like a set menu for all the invitees
• The space is lovely and it could be utilised so much better with the right staff and the right attention to detail
• We have eaten there in the restaurant proper (not a buffet) a goodly number of times and the cuisine is always fabulous
• The first time I ate seriously there I was so impressed I insisted on paying more than the bill I was given
• Tbf the catchment area is not ideal for that
• Another time the sound system was down and the poor DJ (Commander B of Vibes FM fame) was trying to push roots out of 8 inch ceiling speakers
