  • Kricket is a brand new restaurant with no popups or street food appearances to its name

  • Chef Will Bowlby (Cinnamon Kitchen) and business partner Rik Campbell have brought a bit of Mumbai to Brixton with their seasonal small plates and booze

  • There's an intriguing quartet of cocktails to get through with Indian twists such as Old Naranji (Cardamom Bourbon

  • It's nestled in behind Brixton Village and is made up of shipping containers that have been converted into very cool bars

  • The real reason I was there was to try out a restaurant called Kricket

  • The kitchen there is run by my godmother's very talented son

  • Having seen photo after photo of the amazing dishes at Kricket on my Instagram feed it was time for me to taste it first hand

  • Peanut crumble and papdi a wonderful dish the aubergine was perfectly smoky and was great with the labneh and papdi crackers

  • Their food utilises British seasonal ingredients combined with authentic Indian recipes and spices

  • We shared a few small plates amongst the four is us we could have easily ordered the entire menu

  • Keralan fried chicken delicious crunchy chicken bites served with curry leaf mayonnaise and pickled mouli

  • The chicken was really tender and moist

  • Could have done with a bit more seasoning

  • All Londoners are capable of being a bit twattish when it comes to traveling around town &ndash

  • So I did huff a bit when I was invited by Rosie to visit Kricket at POP Brixton

  • M a little in love with the food offerings from Pop Brixton

  • S Ghana Kitchen and Koi Ramen whose broth is lighter and thinner than other ramen joints

  • One of the things that has really impressed us is the explosion of casual / street food dining options

  • Kricket is quietly going about serving some of the best and most innovative Indian inspired sharing plates I've had in recent memory

  • The menu is littered with flavour bombs which left me speechless and reconsidering just what was possible in such a confined space

  • Dishes such as the kichri and goat leg Raan take classic dishes and ramp flavours to the next level but it is the Keralan fried chicken which proves to be my kryptonite

  • These bite sized parcels of poultry are intensely fragrant and dangerously moreish to the point that one order never seems enough

  • I arrived at Kricket with little expectation and safe to say

  • The team here have achieved a level of refinement I didn't think was possible given the space they operate and do it so humbly

  • I wouldn't be surprised if a more permanent restaurant opens in the future the food is worthy of it

  • Kricket is an Indian small plate restaurant and is the brainchild of two handsome chaps

  • Chatting to your neighbours is inevitable

  • The potential for it to be awkward and uncomfortable is massive yet the whole thing feels relaxed and charming

  • Be warned you will want to try everything on the list so arrive hungry and with an open mind as some of the ingredients listed will be new to most

  • Order the lot and leave fully satisfied with space for one of the local ales before bed

  • I was recently asked by London Cheap Eats to do a weekend takeover of their Instagram account with my personal picks of where to find London&rsquo

  • 8 and under that are a proper meal (aka they&rsquo

  • I come back each time for the food (Always happy to see him as well but he's usually in the kitchen) which is always the best inventive

  • Kricket (Brixton) is all about the love of food

  • Two communal benches line the middle and the kitchen is squeezed into the back

  • This little restaurant stuck with the tried and true recipe for success

  • Omg Kricket (Brixton) is really good

  • Also we ordered pork belly and in desert we ordered gulab jamun which was super good

  • OMG Kricket (Brixton) is really very good awesome there food is so delicious can't explained in words

  • Needs must and of course tasting curry is more important than my feelings

  • The ceilings are more peculiar

  • The menu here is fairly limited to just eleven small plates

  • Either way sharing is on the cards and that's what we did

  • Kicking things off with a crunch was the samphire (sea asparagus) pakora

  • These deep fried bites come with a lovely tamarind sauce that completes a great starter

  • Also hitting all the right notes was the bhel puri

  • Kricket's version is a solid one with equally generous helpings of tangy tamarind sauce and yoghurt

  • The one bread available here is the malabar paratha

  • It was served piping hot with typically fluffy layers

  • The keralan fried chicken was first to raise eyebrows with the south west region not famed for finger lickin' goodness

  • The batter had a lovely salty hit and in combination with a curry leaf and pickled mooli topping provided a pretty mouth watering bite

  • Even less convincing was the pig head vindaloo

  • Indian food is not reknowned for housing pork

  • So this dish a sort of pulled pork cake was a bit surprising and underwhelming

  • The vindaloo is a little baffling and small crackling pieces on top also left us a little confused

  • The pick of the bunch was probably the macher johl cornish cod on a fennel flavoured bed of onion and tomato that housed a deep smokey heat

  • The cod itself was perfectly cooked

  • The service here is pretty prompt and comes with a friendly smile

  • The mood lighting is a little too much on the dark side for my tastes

  • You basically cannot go wrong ordering and the food is so reasonably priced
