Hohaki (Whitechapel)

• Szechuan food is a little too greasy to become a staple
• It's a basic Vietnamese canteen with a limited menu geared mostly to City workers at lunchtime
• We both had the rice box which comes with protein of choice
• Rice drizzled with a little Nuoc Mau
• Or Vietnamese caramel and fish sauce and topped with a scatter of deep fried scallion
• Green mango salad that is stretched with shredded carrot
• Cucumber and kohlrabi is the accompaniment that makes this a balanced meal
• The nuoc mau was pleasant but I prefer the caramel to be taken to a more aggressive bitter level of darkness
• 1 per head with a Coop supermarket down the street
• Dinner for two before service but including corkage was under £
• I had Bun Cha from Hohaki (Whitechapel) and the meat was well marinated and tasty
