  • To say that expectations were high as I entered Eneko for lunch this week

  • The new restaurant at One Aldwych hotel is an offshoot of Azurmendi Bilbao &ndash

  • S three Michelin starred restaurant (in the gastronomic haven that is the Basque Country)

  • My friends and I were particularly curious as it seems that porting over restaurants from Spain sometimes can suffer from a bit too much heat

  • While you sit down they bring a selection of breads and butter flavored with basil emulsion and chive

  • The sour dough my companion chose was more conventional

  • It came with good alioli sprinkled with dehydrated tomato powder instead of the tomato and ginger granita stated on the menu

  • Nice balance of flavors and textures with little balls of wine soaked apple compote

  • It was so umami that I suspect meat or mushroom broth was involved in its cooking as well

  • The other main was oxtail in mushroom emulsion

  • Having been cooked long and slow and decorated with the same edible flowers

  • Because our order turned out to be rather rich we were too full for dessert

  • Service was already very slick with respect to both front of house and in the kitchen

  • It only took 65 minutes to order and eat a two course dinner with bread and sides and pay by card

  • My only objection is the lack of cheaper wine options

  • At full price dinner for two with a bottle of wine would have been £

  • The style of cooking was Basque in principal

  • The restaurant itself was located inside the 5 star hotel

  • We were given a warm welcome by the host who started us off with some imported wines and still water

  • A delightful start came in with a mix of butter and parsley accompanied by a variety of breads with which we were spoilt for choice

  • The olive seed bread was my fav which tasted splendid with the butter

  • Post that we were asked to pick starters out of which we 3 decided to share some of their signature beetroot tartare along with mash potatoes as a side

  • Though the duck was slightly short of warm which was ordered by my friend

  • The oxtail which was slow cooked and pulled

  • Was accompanied with small flowers on the side

  • Loved the sauce that was placed along with the meat too

  • We ended up ordering just one dessert and some dessert wine which was a kind of sponge cake (apologies I don't really remember what it was called

  • You could check photos) which was accompanied by a scoop of ice cream made with goats milk

  • N and the Basque region ( with Bilbao) is home to the most three Michelin starred restaurants in the world

  • The finalists were whisked away to northern Spain and were shown what quality was

  • This type of quality was about using nature and fresh ingredients to produce some exquisite dishes

  • I took Edd along with me so we could have a catch up and 'last supper' before my move to Australia next week

  • He declared it the best meal he's had

  • I'd say this was pretty good going

  • Eneko appears to be the one all are pinning their hopes on

  • The staff are well trained and the service is on the formal side

  • This is a fine dining restaurant but with traditional food

  • To the discerning diner who will be able to afford this menu it is probably more welcome

  • One Aldwych manages to combine grandeur with boutique hotel charm

  • Though the old downstairs restaurant was more functional than exceptional

  • All that is set to change with the newly opened Eneko

  • A restaurant with a Basque pedigree from Eneko Atxa

  • Ve never really worked out exactly where the line is drawn and defined between the two areas

  • 13) served in a lidded wooden box was a thoughtfully complete mini feast in itself

  • An equally tasty starter course but one far more dramatic in presentation was the Memories of the Bay of Biscay (oyster

  • Where it says Eneko is a Basque masculine given name meaning my little dear

  • His restaurant Azrmendi is currently placed at No 16 on the World&rsquo
