Canela (Covent Garden)

• The decor too is minimalistic
• Sitting down with some friends during the week we ordered a bottle of Arca Nova Alvarinho 2013
• Cottage cheese with figs and tomatoes and something called a squid boat calamari stuffed with chorizo and tomatoes
• Beautiful to look at dishes pay homage to the seafood that is a staple of life in both countries
• Black rice with prawns and bulgar wheat salad
• A beef stew dish with grilled bananas
• Honest meal served with a poached egg and cereal
• Presented sharply with a London diner in mind
• So sticky it was almost gelatinous
• The desserts ranged from traditional Portuguese custard tarts to Brigadeiro (an incredibly lush black chocolate ball drizzled with more chocolate)
• The banana cinnamon cake was the tastiest among them
• Juliet goiabada (guava paste) with mascarpone was a lovely way to finish the meal with the sensory flavours of Brazilian food
• You will get a sense of the very best of Brazil from this excellent little restaurant
• It was good but I prefer it with less olive oil
• The service is exceptional
• Staff and food are great and at affordable price
• Good selection of teas (cinnamon tea is actual cinnamon bark) and lovely pastries
• At lunch they have a wide range of salads (the octopus one is very tasty and truly Portuguese
• If all you're looking for is something to nibble
• Try the chorizo bread or the bifana (pork loin steak with a mustard sauce)
