  • I used to really like Bacchus when it was a gastropub on Hoxton Street

  • Their food was consistently good and their triple cooked chips in beef rendering were among the best chips i have eaten in London

  • Was sad when they closed down in December 2013 due to an offer from a real estate developer that was just too good to refuse

  • I was sorely disappointed with our Sunday roast today

  • The crackling was tough rather than crispy

  • The potatoes were not crispy

  • Everything was smothered in gravy

  • The potatoes had that telltale grainy texture I associate with having been reheated after cooling

  • I've followed them to the Hoxton Street Studios which was an impressive venue and last week I went to the Lion &

  • Lamb pub which is where they are currently shacked up

  • Unfortunately this is something Bacchus are not capable of

  • I ordered the roast beef which as you would imagine was listed as including a Yorkshire pudding

  • They have no kitchen and everything is shipped in through the back door

  • Watery vegetables verging on the school dinner variety were lightly covered in tasteless gravy and most unsatisfying

  • Yet mine was extremely rare (not a bad thing granted) but also amazingly had nearly zero flavour and if there was any it was too under attack from the intrusive herb crust to make an appearance

  • S revelation that the food is cooked offsite as they had the crumbly texture inside and odd taste you can only achieve through repeatedly re heating

  • The horseradish sauce was spectacularly bad

  • It was basically sour cream with the lightest

  • Overall I would suggest you give Bacchus a wide birth as the quality and execution of something they claim as a speciality is simply awful

  • A humble British tradition that is consumed all year round

  • Think combined roasted meat carved and served with roast potatoes/mashed potatoes

  • Vegetables and topped it off with some nice gravy

  • Where for the best Sunday roasts in London

  • It shouted more of council estate where Bacchus Sudays is based at the lion &

  • It is one of the best in London for roasts

  • The menu changes each week with limited choices

  • When cut into it the yolk was oozing out

  • Mr T had the fried mozzarella sticks with the melted cheese being very stringy and Mrs T had the smoked salmon

  • The crackling was burnt and on the tough side

  • Wasn't exactly crispy and the meat was not tender enough

  • We shared a apple and pear crumble with custard between three people

  • Bacchus Sundays does not live up the expectation as being one of the best Sunday roasts in London

  • I'm sure there are many better Sunday roasts for me to discover

  • I do hope Bacchus can return to its former highly praised gastropub standard (not that I been to when it was a gastropub

  • They also have live Irish music on Sundays which is a bit of fun
