  • Babaji Pide is the latest in a long line of casual dining restaurants dreamt up by Alan Yau and as the name suggest

  • 2) I am quite a novice when it comes to Turkish food so was looking forward to some proper stuff

  • I made my way to Shaftesbury Ave with a healthy curiosity and appetite

  • Settling on dishes was an exercise in self restraint but an order of calamari

  • Karides pide (prawn Turkish bread) and manti (dumplings) was eventually made

  • The calamari was fine but was void of anything which made it really stand out

  • The highlight was the karides guvec which was really something though even then it had the potential to be more

  • I'd say the meal was just average

  • I must confess that I warmed up for dinner with a Salted Caramel &

  • The first night of soft opening filled up with food industry types

  • Many of whom were drawn to the imposing (and possibly surplus to requirements) Black Eagle coffee machine

  • I settled down with a bottle of Efes (surely there's another Turkish beer worth drinking out there

  • The eponymous pide were sadly in short supply

  • So we were left with Karides Pide (similar to the Gü

  • Butter) made it to our table and were quickly dispatched

  • Rice Pudding with Cherry was a success

  • A Kagit Helva vanilla ice cream sandwich was all wafer and no filling

  • I knew there was a reason I had that doughnut before dinner

  • Babaji Pide was perfectly enjoyable

  • It was of course early days and it is bound to improve

  • A very sweet and smiley waiter came and promised us it was only 15 minutes and there was a large

  • Karides guvec was a dish of baked prawns with peppers

  • This one was short on filling but the filo was crispy and perfectly browned

  • The samphire was unexpectedly cold

  • Lemony and salty and went well with the other dishes

  • Our third choice of pide was the Afyon beef sucuk with kasar cheese

  • Half the menu missing as mentioned and the first 20 minutes of our meal was accompanied by a medley of howling children last one not their fault but it ruins the atmosphere somewhat

  • Is dishing up some traditional Turkish food with a focus on pide (their version of pizza

  • S a no bookings deal but it was 7pm on a Monday so we didn&rsquo

  • The narrow space on the ground floor is deceiving so if it looks full fear not

  • Neither my friend nor I were there to stuff ourselves so we ordered moderately &ndash

  • A flat bread cut up into pieces with minced lamb and some sparse flecks of tomato and peppers

  • S arrived as a sort of roll which was a little different and meant we&rsquo

  • We enquired and the waitress had to check on what was supposed to be in there before peering herself and agreeing she couldn&rsquo

  • I think we had to ask whether it was on its way eventually and I was pretty convinced they&rsquo

  • T know why some restaurants are so mean with their wines &ndash

  • We were served a 125ml portion which is about two gulps

  • I had finished my wine and the glass was sitting there when someone came along and whisked it away

  • Not because I wanted the empty glass but because I wanted a refill but they were way too quick

  • S pide with sultanas turned up and we were able to corner the waiter and get another glass of wine

  • The whole meal was underwhelming to say the least both in terms of service and food

  • Clotted cream ice cream in a chewy wafer with a pistachio coating

  • I could have done with more pistachio but this was absolutely yummy to eat

  • I was more than impressed because it was very vegetarian friendly

  • Red pepper and sun blushed tomato with Pide Patates

  • While samphire was fresh and crunchy

  • S food empire is low key and modest in it's dé

  • The entrance has a huge pizza oven which spreads across the ground floor with a few tables dotted around it offering a perfect view of the furnace

  • It's quite casual inside and we were seated upstairs

  • I opted to try one of the chargrilled lamb dishes along with some calamari

  • The food overall was quite nice

  • The pide is one of the specialties of the restaurant and are worth a try

  • The price of the food overall is quite reasonable

  • I always think a good review is one where you forgot to take pics of the food

  • The staff were incredibly helpful to balance the selection across a group of five and the food was equal to the freshness and quality of Turkey itself

  • Any of the meze and the desert with the shredded pastry and cheese (see I told you I wasn't paying enough attention to the review

  • This a small place with very pushy staff

  • Could have done with more topping than dough

  • One of the best restaurants with the best manager

  • The service to be honest is one of the worst in London

  • Everything was good but now wow

  • Then Sofra is always the place

  • The sweets however were average just like the other foods

  • My husband and I went there on Saturday and ordered a pide with Lamb Kufteh which we share

  • I wish there was a filling vegetarian alternative to the grills

  • 2 kids and me almost wanted to go back when we were at the entrance

  • Because it was crowded and because of the 2 baby strollers

  • The kebabs there are worth trying

  • The ambience and the food is nice but the employees are very rude

  • Well Turkish food is a true delight

  • Pide Patates were delicious to the core

  • They say pide is Turkish pizza

  • I would say it is more of a calzone

  • Hummus was one of the best i had in London

  • The server of that floor was least interested

  • Babaji Pide is a Turkish restaurant right by China Town and Queens Theatre at Shaftesury Avenue

  • I remember being captivated by the Turkish tile tables that were lined outside the restaurant during summer

  • Then I peeked into the restaurant and thought there was this chic yet elegant touch of it that I find compelling

  • I had pide and it was really delicious

  • You can try it in Babaji with a great presentation

  • The ambiance is nice and the location is central London

  • S Afyon pide is as delicious as which I ate in Istanbul

  • I recommend Babaji Pide (Soho) for all Turkish who is missing to eat a real pide and of course I recommend it for everyone who want to taste a real pide
