Spoon (Old Town)

• We tried the 2course pre theatre menu as the a la carte was intimidatingly priced for a quick Friday bite
• Mozzarella and rocket salad was pleasant and did exactly what it said on the tin but the main courses were pretty flat and poorly executed
• Cherry tomatoes and pea dish was exactly just that bland and cooked without heart or imagination
• The salt beef with mustard mash and kale was an over seasoned punch in the mouth which became a chore to churn through
• A surprise chunk of wood hidden in the mash was not good at all especially when the waitress informed us that no wood is used in the kitchen
• We popped here with a larger group following a Fringe show
• I ordered pollock with chorizo and roasted potatoes which was absolutely delicious simple but effective flavour combination well executed
• It's a cute spot with funky decor and lovely service
• I really liked mine after I realized all the cordial was at the bottom and you were supposed to stir it
• Our cheesy chips were delish and hit the mid afternoon spot perfectly
• Nothing really stood out and I think it is probably a bit overpriced for what it is
• What more could you want from one of the best places in Edinburgh for brunch
• I used to go there for a coffee between my shift breaks when I was working at the (now defunct) De Niro's Restaurant
