The Outsider (Old Town)

• The Outsider is a restaurant that may not wow you with its disposition on a street that is bustling with food joints
• It is sure to make an impression with both the food and the service
• I was there with a couple of friends on a cold night for dinner
• With the Menu and the day's specials written all over them with white chalk
• The welcome was graceful and charm was evident in their staffing
• We moved on to the more delectable Thai marinated chicken served with king prawns
• A kind of a falafel which was stuffed with onions dipped in creamy pink sauce the appeal to the eye was as much as it was to the taste buds
• An encouraging round of appetizers was followed up with a Main Course that saw us gobble up 'Braised Rabbit Leg with a mix of lentils
• 'Confit Duck Leg with chargrilled baby leeks
• Wild garlic and smoked paprika' and 'Crispy Pork Belly and fillet with smoked aubergine puree
• The Outsider is a winner for sure
• The service here was not bad at all
• The outside is grey and off putting but inside the restaurant is on two floors and is a light filled room stuffed with tables and a mezzanine level
• The clientele on our visit was very &ldquo
• The pigeon could have done with a few minutes less cooking
• Well cooked and served in a thick creamy sauce with pine nuts and onions
• I went last Tuesday with a colleague after a couple of drinks
• We sat on the lower level and it was busy as always with lots of people enjoying their dinner and what was clearly the beginning of the Christmas party season
• I had the steak and wedges with salad which was a very tasty steak with a garlci butter sauce
• The sauce did make it a bit greasy and it could have done with something to break through that for me but to be honest I cleaned the plate as it was so tasty
• MY dinind partner had the venison which she assured me was tender and beautifully flavoured (she doesnt do sharing
• Centrally located in the Old town this is a great place for dinner with friends or partners and has a good selection with the staff happy to help cater for allergies
• Delicious dishes prepared with local products
• I am sucker for their skewers with merguez sausage but
• I keep thinking this is a Italian place but it's different
• The supporting ingredients was well match with contrasting textures
• Another reason to visit The Outsider (Old Town) is the waitress
• It felt like ice cream together with the citrus flavor and actual ice cream (i think the white chocolate is in the ice cream)
• First time visit to the Outsider and it was a nice surprise
• The staff were attentive but service was a little slow
• Me and my friends were starvin marvin
• We had the bread with olives and oil as well as the flat iron dry aged steak served with the house salad and chips
• The dessert was really good
• It was a brownie made with coffee chips and served with vanilla ice cream
• The service was also spot on as well
• Absolutely phenomenal restaurant with views of our fair castle
• Mojo sauce and a pitta filled with their homemade slaw
• Was really busy which is understandable given it's so close to the high street and the buzz of the festival
• This little gem is fast becoming our favourite place for a lazy weekend lunch
• Found ourselves at what is becoming our 'usual' table near the window with a fabulous view of the castle
• Crusty bread with the list delicious herb dipping oil and lashings of butter
• The venison was well cooked
• Packed full of flavour and served with a big chunk of creamy dauphinois potato
• Quantity and overall experience are certainly anything but
• I had the rabbit pie with dauphinois potatoes and a side of garlic fries
• A good hang out with your buddy&rsquo
• We were absolutely delighted with our meal and the entire experience last night at The Outsider
• The pan fried pigeon was suitably red and slightly bloodied
• Was not sure about ordering the sea trout with risotto as I was avoiding too much carbs
• The sea trout was cooked beautifully and the preserved lemon tapanade worked amazingly well with the risotto and the trout
• Everything was cooked right and the Innis and Gunn was deep and flavoursome
• The Crab and Crayfish Linguine with lemon herbs currently is my favorite
• Lamb we had was cooked perfectly
• From where we were seated we had a lovely view of Edinburgh Castle as well
• Unfortunately the appearance and taste were not the same as previous day
• The second was drier and a bit bland
