The Wet Fish (West Hampstead)

• Sunday brunches are consistently excellent and imaginative without being off the wall
• Dinners too are also consistently high quality (as are lunches and breakfasts come to that
• The price of which is a comforting £
• My companions went for the roasted celeriac soup with a watercress oil and pistachios
• All this was to be washed down with a couple of bottles of the Alpha Zeta Rosata
• The way the restaurant is decked out and the sheer volume of people that this is a successfully run venture with a ton of thought and care that's gone into it
• They have a clear vision of who they are and that was one of the things that really attracted me to them in the first place
• I have to say that by the end of the meal I was taken aback by certain elements of the food and practically dumb struck by a couple of the dishes
• So let's start with the good the very good soup indeed
• The tempura batter on the very generous portion of halibut was spot on light
• Crispy and the fish was beautifully moist
• If I'd known I was going to bite into a perfectly cooked scallop underneath which was an iced ingredient I would have run for the hills
• I'm afraid there is no other way of saying this but it was virtually inedible
• I don't even know what went into it but one mouthful of over cooked pasta and an oily mess with a few slithers of salmon were plain horrible
• My sea bass was beautifully cooked but what came with it didn't work for me it was dry and needed lifting with a delicate sauce
• The saffron cous cous was ok but I just felt a little robbed
• People particularly love the steak and the food is beautifully presented
• So I'm scratching my head with bewilderment
• I left with a weary heart and I'm still struggling with my experience a sort of bipolar meal is the only way I can sum it up
• Hake fillet and the warm chocolate dessert are really nice
