  • Combine fantastic cornish produce with sensational thai flavours and you get Smoking Goat

  • Situated on Denmark Street on the outskirts of Soho is SG with a small dimly lit place with a few tables and some spots at the bar

  • The small menu reflects this with only 7 dishes appetizers &

  • The oysters and scallops with red nam yum were fresh and delicate

  • Probably the best chicken wings I've had with unfathomably crispy coating smothered in fish sauce

  • Things got even messer with the crab dish

  • After all the crab was cracked and dispatched with came the lamb ribs with fermented shrimp

  • Smoking Goat serves some of the best Thai food you will eat outside of Thailand

  • A powerful sound system supported by two huge speakers near the front door add to the general cacaophony with some bass heavy dance music

  • Also the bench seating along one wall is a plank of solid

  • 30 ish onwards the room is full of people sipping beer and twiddling their thumbs until they can order the Whole Cornish Crab or the lamb ribs or whatever

  • Anyway so those are all the reasons why you might not want to bother going to Smoking Goat

  • 1 each come with a sharp nam jim (dipping sauce)

  • Believe me I love buffalo wings a LOT so this is high praise

  • The main draw from the menu proper is of course the whole Cornish chilli crab

  • Because most of the sweet white meat is quite hard to get at

  • If there's one dish that's going to make you forget where you are and transport you to a seafood shack on the white beach at Ko Chang

  • The Smoking Goat Chilli Crab is an instant classic

  • Other main courses are hardly less accomplished

  • Coal roast hand dived scallop with nam yum (lime juice

  • Meaty thing with a smoky crust and a generous roe

  • Like a lot of Thai food it's superficially straightforward in terms of ingredients but the balance of sweet/sour/smoky/chilli is absolutely spot on

  • I don't think the same dip or sauce is used twice

  • Lamb ribs are basted with fermented shrimp

  • Are served with a kind of sweet chilli dip (though obviously a million miles away from any sweet chilli you may have had squirted around a salad from Thai Square

  • House som tam (green papaya salad) is another minor classic

  • It's packed with flavour and heat surprisingly so

  • Given the chilli levels elsewhere stop thankfully somewhat short of authentic and is a multicoloured

  • Wines and beers are far from an afterthought

  • The rare and brilliant Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is available in 750ml measures

  • Offered a sweet German Riesling to go with our crab and scallops

  • I wondered whether there was an easier way of doing all this

  • Then as soon as it arrives courier it to my house where I could demolish the crab using a salad bowl as a finger wash and finish with fish sauce wings in front of the X Factor

  • Though everything that doesn't involve filling your face with smoked lamb and scallops is a test of almost every faculty I possess

  • Smoke filled kitchen is enough to make me forgive almost anything

  • I'm reliably informed they are hoping to open the kitchen earlier in the evening

  • The role that social media plays in our modern life is well document

  • So depending on how you choose to interact with social media

  • Smoking Goat is quickly becoming THE place to eat in London as my Instagram feed will attest where plate after plate of its amazing looking dishes make their daily appearance

  • To say the place is cosy is an understatement as the place was already at about 80% capacity

  • Lemongrass and kaffir basted with ketjap manis and white pepper is as good (if not better) than it sounds but the true highlight is the crab

  • That whole cornish chilli crab with aromatic herbs

  • Palm sugar and fresh coconut cream with hot mint and salted curry leaves

  • The good times don't stop there as the curry sauce with the portion of sticky rice which it's served with is amazing

  • The London food scene is doing its best impression of the capital's bus network at the moment

  • Less predictable though was the simultaneous arrival of Som Saa in London Fields and Smoking Goat in Soho

  • Resistance was futile and I was back again before too long

  • Those clever folk from The Begging Bowl in Peckham are behind it

  • Smoking Goat gets away with it due to a buzzing atmosphere and knockout cooking

  • The Coal Roast Scallops with Red Nam Yum come highly recommended too

  • Smoked lamb ribs basted with fermented shrimp

  • both served with som tam (green papaya salad)

  • Whole Cornish Chilli Crab with aromatic herbs

  • Even if you are a skilled excavator

  • Allowing us to at least eat those two plates with a little dignity

  • Melon Salad or Wood roast quail with sweet soy and chilli but the crab carnage must be your Smoking Goat initiation

  • Add it to that pile with Pitt Cue Co &

  • Flat Iron Soho joints with no reservations that are worth the wait

  • Smoking Goat is a tiny Thai restaurant situated on Denmark Street

  • I had high hope and was expecting getting messy

  • The fish sauce was not over powering but it was severely salty towards the last few bites

  • Chilli and palm sugar was very tender

  • Kaffir and basted with ketjap manis and white pepper) was different to what I had in mind

  • The sweet glaze gave the skin a crispy finish and the meat was still moist and firm

  • Both meats was accompanied by a dipping sauce which tasted very similar to me or it could be two different sauces

  • Mains are also served with sticky rice and som tam

  • A green papaya salad packed with flavour and heat

  • There was no queue but the restaurant was running very busy

  • I don't know if it is a one off bad serving of over salty chicken wings or is it just me

  • The first time I went to Smoking Goat I was blown away by the flavours

  • Lamb and duck were especially great (paired well with the Riesling)

  • The pork belly was great though and the standout dish of the night

  • The fish sauce wings are a definite must order super crunchy and great

  • The coal roast scallops with red nam yum are also very good

  • Smoked lamb ribs are really tender and juicy

  • Both of these dishes are served with som tam (green papaya salad)

  • That jaew dipping sauce is so tasty that it's great even with plain rice

  • The wood roast chilli jam bass is also great for sharing really fresh and delicious aroma from the roasted chilli and aromatic herbs

  • The also had a pomelo salad that day which was light and refreshing

  • Less choice means the opportunity to really innovate with taste and texture

  • The Smoking Goat was smoking hot

  • Smoking Goat Soho is one of the newest places on this list and

  • Head chef Seb Holmes was poached from another Thai kitchen

  • Space is tight with around 40 covers

  • Most of which are seated around the bar and the smell of the smoky wood ember barbecue permeates the whole room

  • Our expectations were running high

  • Not only was it one of our best overall meal experiences in London we choose it to go back to again for our absolutely last meal before driving to the airport

  • So what one thing about the meal was the absolutel standout star

  • What brought us back across Soho on blistered feet with our luggage cooling in the hotel lobby

  • The answer is basically more steps than you would ever think possible for a 'simple' wing

  • Getting the nod to actually come back to the kitchen and meet Sebastian in the kitchen with his massive grill a brilliant end to a perfect trip

  • T encounter problems with any of these

  • I arrived early (just before 7pm) and was seated straight away

  • The atmosphere was fun and buzzy

  • The menu is short and sweet with a handful of choices for each course &ndash

  • The only downside is that there are no desserts on the menu

  • The service was good and the food arrived fast

  • The depth of flavours combined with the texture of the meat is a testament to the chef's skills

  • That combination is the reason why I like Smoking Goat

  • The atmosphere is not one of fine dining or date night meal

  • It is a small pub with dim lights and a tight squeeze

  • A friend and I visited the Smoking Goat by chance as it was on of the few meaty (

  • Its on a quietish road with a very unassuming facade

  • The decor was cute and the staff were very friendly and attentive

  • We ordered these huge beef ribs with an interesting gingery

  • A very cool restaurant with excellent food

  • When I first heard we were destined to meet here for dinner

  • I did wonder if this was a smoking establishment

  • Great atmosphere friendly staff and the place is always buzzing

  • Creative cocktails and food packed with punchy flavors

  • Greeted very professionally at the entrance and delighted that she was able to seat us immediately at the bar

  • In hindsight we felt was the best place to be

  • We started with fantastic cocktails

  • Meats and coordinated Asian flavours with the added bonus of barbecue cooking of some dishes

  • We went for a mix of both seafood and meat sharing plates and were bowled over by the high quality cooking and especially by the fabulous fresh and zingy Thai salad combinations with the food

  • All fantastic and the final bonus to add gloss to our perfect meal was availability of Beavertown Neck Oil Pale Ale on tap

  • I have been holding off on reviews during recent travels as I wanted to start with a positive one

  • Though clearly not a family focused venue we (two kids two adults) were welcomed warmly and a table was sorted

  • Very simple menu but each item was well executed

  • Highly recommended and would definitely go back service was also top notch

  • Ve been all over London (and beyond) to find the best that London has to offer

  • Its focus is on slabs of barbecued meats with an abundance of Thai flavourings rather than an authentic representation but what&rsquo

  • S not to love about chunks of meat with Thai spices

  • Then there is nothing you won't like in this small and dark dive bar

  • The slow roasted goat shoulder served here is a meat eaters delight

  • Pair it up with tangy green papaya salad and smoky corn

  • We also had mackerel fish which was really nice

  • The place offers a limited menu but everything was so delicious

  • Each morsel is so satisfying

  • Don't bother with the papaya salad unless you like fruit that taste of old socks

  • I would gladly prop myself on a stool again for what is a true deviation from your typical Thai experience

  • All of the meats are cooked to a point of peak tenderness

  • As the sauces that accompany each individual meat course are something you'll want to sop up as much of as you can

  • We had to wait for one our till the food was served after complaining that soon we will have to leave
