I stayed a night at the Mandeville Hotel a few years back now and it was one of the worst nights sleep I have had and came with a £
-
Back then it was just a standard hotel restaurant
-
Especially with consumers now screaming for quality ingredients
-
The idea of Reform Social & Grill (Marylebone) is to serve up quintessentially British grub in a relaxed
-
Yet upmarket setting dishing out quality food to compete with the ever expanding &lsquo
-
Jens Folkel from Bistro Du Vin is head chef while Giovanni Piattoli from Mark Hix&rsquo
-
S Albemarle is restaurant manager
-
T understand is why mid week at 1pm we were the only diners
-
Anywhere in Marylebone at this time is bustling with business lunches
-
We started with the duck Scotch egg
-
The meat intertwined with the black pudding was seasoned beautifully and encased in a light oat shell which was not oily in the slightest
-
The egg white was firm and the yoke soft and gooey
-
Very classic british with an updated twist
-
Grill is right at the end of marylebone high street it is the restaurant bar of a hotel
-
That is probably the reason why it is quieter than you'd expect for the location
-
Moving on to the mains there is a few cuts to choose from in case you go for the steak
-
I do appreciate that my medium rare request meant that my patty was nice and pink inside unlike so many places where they cook it too much despite asking
-
We also had the veg curry with pearl barley this one was surprisingly good &
-
Another point worth knowing is you can get a free membership card to the place which gets you a nice 25% off future food bills
-
Pigs in blankets (chipolatas in prosciutto) with a blackcurrant jelly &
-
Particularly enjoyed the Christmas Pudding with its boozy custard &ndash
-
The light fluffy Christmas cake with candied peel and two thin layers of marzipan and icing &ndash
-
Chips came with half a bottle of Malbec
-
The Malbec had great berry notes and the Chardonnay was light and citrusy
-
So you will just have to take my word for it they were perfectly balance and a delight to eat
-
Incredibly after this hearty meal we still had room for desserts (well there is a separate dessert section in the stomach is there not
-
So we plumped for a Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla icecream
-
The first I was told had a wonderful
-
The bakewell tart had light buttery sweet shortcrust pastry with a lovely surprise of raspberries in the central filling rather than the traditional jam &ndash
-
It also came with a fab vanilla custard
-
Classy place that is not over the top expensive
-
Unfortunately we missed out on having one of their usual special deals that are usually so inviting
-
Course I was reassured that my dish was gluten free
-
I was very happy with the experience and the perfectly nice meal
-
The portions are small so keep that in mind if you go in very hungry
-
We started with a mango bellini
-
Though we were offered a choice of which tea to accompany our food with I chose the refreshing organic mint melange
-
The cucumber and cream cheese was my favourite of the selection
-
These scones looked as good as they tasted rustic (there's something just not right with a smooth scone) and slightly sweetened
-
The apple and custard pots were by far the best sweet offering on the table
-
The rest of the sweets on the table were a bit of a let down
-
So to be served up dry coffee and walnut cake/chocolate fudge cake (that tasted a day old) was quite upsetting for me
-
The hotel itself is a comfortable setting
-
The afternoon tea area is quite intimate (around 6 tables)
-
I felt that the quality of the food was lacking slightly
-
It's not one of the best afternoon tea's I've had
-
26.50 each with a free bellini (minus service charge)
-
Grill in London's ever delightful Mandeville Hotel in Marylebone is offering a quintessentially British brunch experience for you to get your teeth into
-
There are many elements to judge a bar on and this is one of mine
-
If the Old Fashioned is made with the care and attention it deserves
-
We even had the pleasure of watching our barman share his tricks of the trade with a few culprits who were willing to put themselves in the spotlight
-
Ur thirst was well on the way to being quenched and it was time to check out the main name of the game
-
You'll find somewhere to snuggle into on a Sunday afternoon while the weather is being characteristically crap outside and all you want to do is eat cheese
-
The roast arrived with a Yorkshire pudding the size of my face drenched in beefy gravy with crisp roast potatoes
-
It was a huge portion so don't go watching your waistline (that's not what Sunday's are for anyway)
-
A good Yorkie is one of my favourite bits
