My Flatmate ate here the other night and se said it was amazing so I decided to try it today
-
Went for an early dinner at half 5 so it was pretty quiet but was picking up by the time we left
-
The place is huge with plenty of tables and a coal fire going at one end of the restaurant which suits all the smokes food perfectly
-
I love the dishes the food is served on and the food was all delicious
-
30 which I thought was such a good price for quality of food
-
Part of the Fuller Thompson chain this pub is slightly different to the other ones in the group
-
We took a table by a window and were greeted by a waitress who gave us menus
-
We poured over the menus and there was lots to choose from
-
We also ordered a side of fries with cheese sauce to share
-
T typically traditional margarita and sadly there was no salt around the rim but the cocktail still tasted nice
-
Though the service was really friendly
-
Had some interesting and tasty quinoa fritters then an okay pulled pork roll with a side of very cheesy macaroni cheese
-
Person I was eating with (and paying) had a pretty big Caesar salad with nice looking charred chicken and a side of quite tasty chips
-
Blog posts are put on hold
-
I think OX184 (Old Town) keeps up with the best of them
-
What's more is that I LOVE the fact that OX serve their full menu well into the night
-
Means if you are among those who like to hit the Hive every now and again
-
All of the above was really great
-
We both agreed that the lobster buns were particularly tasty
-
I really think OX is a game changer for the Cowgate
-
The service is exceptional
-
Professional staff there is (and especially during the festival when most Edinburgh people are rather grumpy)
-
It has the starters (good portion size) for those just wanting to nibble on something whilst having something to drink I had the shrimp and lobster sliders and the chips with cheese sauce
-
One additional bonus is that they serve food till 3am (430am during the festival) when 99% of places that serve food in Edinburgh close between 9pm and 10pm
-
The only wee thing that I can comment negatively on is the position of the WC's
-
They are a bit of a trek if you are sitting downstairs
-
I find the food in the place tasteless with not a single flavour to make it good
-
The salad I ordered was boring and not something I would never order again
-
(1) Kitchen is open till 3am
-
Well what I meant about the smaller portion is that because the mains come literally as it is (without any sides)
-
Because the starters are quite a decent size as well I've even had combos of 2 starters and a side or 1 starter 2 sides
-
I wasn't too keen on the piglets though as I felt that were just way to salty for me
-
I went for food with friends back when it opened and it was really great
-
The staff were really friendly and despite the fact it was busy found a table for us
-
A vast quantity of premium spirits were used to make our cocktail
-
It was one of the best drinks I've EVER had think mince pies
-
Our Beer Man had popped in for an early visit to OX184 when it first opened and been pretty impressed with their beer selection
-
D visited for drinks a couple of times and been overwhelmed with the smoky barbecue aromas from the kitchen but felt the place was still finding its feet
-
I thought it was about time to give it a visit for food
-
We didn't want to queue over an hour at Ting Thai Caravan and were on our way somewhere else when we bumped into OX184
-
The decor and atmosphere with the wood fire is cosy and sophisticated
-
My lamb baby back ribs were overwhelmed with a spice rub that didn't quite hit the mark
-
The chips were sadly tasteless with not a scrap of salt
-
My partner's lamb steak was mostly well cooked
-
I think OX184 definitely has promise the Edinburgh gin and elderflower tonic I had was sensational but the menu needs some tweaks to really make it work
-
Very spacious and chilled with a lovely log fire
