I stumbled upon McQueen (Shoreditch) during one of my strolls through London and was intrigued by its location slightly off the beaten track of the Shoreditch triangle
-
I investigated what was on the inside and decided I wanted to try it
-
Its design is supposed to emulate American cool
-
I do wonder if the clientele it attracts are quite what they had in mind &ndash
-
The restaurant was pretty empty when we got there at a little before 7
-
Our voucher was for a meal for two
-
Then the bavette with thrice cooked chips and a turnip puree
-
The fishcake was good &ndash
-
Nice and crisp batter on the outside with big flakes of fish inside
-
The lentils were cooked perfectly for me and it all tasted great
-
The bavette was decent but not the best steak I&rsquo
-
T convinced that the chips were triple cooked
-
What really stole the show was the turnip puree
-
T have that problem with my fondant
-
Stephen had food envy and with good reason
-
I had thought they might present us with one so that they could charge us for service and I was interested to see if it would be 12.5% on our voucher price
-
The fact that they did not even give us a bill was a big plus for them
-
The drinks were a leetle pricey but not too far above the average for Shoreditch
-
The only seats available in fact as even though no one else in the bar was sitting down
-
They had festooned all available sitting surfaces with their bags and accessories
-
As we had unexpectedly ended up drinking both the night before and the night before that so the visit was brief but enjoyable
-
They have great parties with nice crowd so much different than what you see in Mayfair
-
The decor is beautiful with impressive statues in the bar area
-
When they have organised parties is really cool
-
Everyone is there for the great music and atmosphere and I like to go back here because is clearly a wicked place
-
The champagne cocktail they tried to get away with putting in cheap champagne instead of moet (which was stated on the menu)
-
It may be because I was visiting on a voucher but I do not feel this
-
The flavour of the fresh tomatoes and herbs with small specks of different sauces complimented each other
-
It was full of flavour and it was really soft and well cooked
-
The fish has a more subtle flavour which was nice but I preferred the lamb
-
Dessert we had ice creams and the chocolate cake which was their dessert of the day
-
Both dessert was beautiful and we even mixed them together which made it better
-
We were sitting at a 4 seater table and i was on the bench which is just too low
-
The meal was fine nothing great to be honest and the waiter was not the friendliest
-
The restaurant looks great with the dark wood and the bar area is definitely somewhere I want to check out in the future
-
The only fault was that I felt service was quite slow
