  • The desire to warm up with some hearty curry and review it at the same time

  • They were put to the test earlier in the day when an eager Michael Murphy called to check a) if there were television facilities and b) whether we could reserve a spot in line with said television

  • To be fair they rose the challenge and passed with flying colours

  • It is perhaps worth mentioning at this point that the reason for being so keen to have sight of a TV was not the because of the usual Emmerdale

  • 'Hitch the Stitch' was unable to waddle her way out of the office on time so missed proceedings

  • The ever present Michael Murphy was there on time to use himself as collateral to hold the table

  • Which there was no corkage fee

  • Lahore Karahi was off to a flying start

  • So despite the rip roaring start with the TV and table

  • If there was to be one flaw with the menu it would be this

  • If everything is on the menu is describes as 'Lahore Karahi Special' it dilutes the term 'special' take note 'Lawhore' Karahi

  • Lahore Karahi sits down towards the Broadway end of Tooting High Street and is very much a no nonsense set up

  • Practicality definitely won out over interior design when Lahore Karahi (Tooting) was being put together

  • The main architectural feature of a spiral staircase is a nice touch

  • Although this alone is not enough for condemnation

  • The Popadoms came with the usual suspects and were sufficient

  • We felt it was a nice touch

  • As they both were okay on flavour

  • I don't know if the Lahore tourist board are aware of this

  • Let's start with the Karahi Karela Bitter Melon Gosht

  • Some of the herbage was a little burnt though and this left a bitter aftertaste (literally)

  • It was difficult to really see what the USP of the Chicken Tikka Masala was certainly in terms of its status as a Lahore Karahi Special

  • 'special' here is used so liberally its sentiment is lost

  • At first it was a little repugnant

  • This didn't sit well with the chicken

  • As the flavours mellowed together the creamy edge started to come through and it was actually rather pleasant

  • As always the chicken was succulent (we make no apologies for using this word again)

  • Unfortunately the waiters were the latter

  • This continued throughout the meal with my plate being removed while Mike was still knee deep in Karahi Karela Bitter Melon Gosht

  • Lahore Karahi is no different

  • The competitive universe that is Tooting's selection of curry houses

  • A mysterious 80p was placed on the bill

  • This goes to Lahore Karahi for accommodating our request to be placed in line with the TV and having it not only angled towards the table but

  • Lahore Karahi is caught between a rock and a hard place and must work harder if it wants to be likened to its cultural capital namesake

  • Michael Murphy Supports Arsenal He was not a happy man

  • Not knowing what to expect or having read any reviews about it and it was a pleasant experience overall

  • The portion size was rather small than what we expected

  • If I had to pick one starter I'd say Shami Kebab (Minced meat mixed with chickpeas and spices) was the best from the lot that I tasted

  • I think the real deal are the authentic Lahori curries and naan that is served at this restaurant

  • Fish Karahi (That are Lahore specialities) with Jeera naan

  • If you order the Keema naan (Naan stuffed with minced spicy meat) make sure that you don't order a lot of other breads apart from that or else be prepared to carry some boxes back home with you

  • I was disappointed with the Butter chicken but then I am used to eating it in Delhi which in my opinion serves the best Butter Chicken in the world

  • This restaurant is always packed

  • I mean waiters are all hard working

  • There is a plasma screen TV on the wall and many people eating have enjoyed watching the live cricket broadcasts that are shown free of charge to the customers

  • On the other hand service I have been to better places around the area where the service is much better

  • Food is brought promptly but with no finesse

  • I think they were also very busy with takeaway orders

  • This is a no frills restaurant with more waiters than customers at times and they still manage to keep a slow service

  • During peak hours however you wont even find a place to sit what with all the diverse people represented on the various tables

  • Imagine you mama was pakistani girl in pakistan who learnt how to cook from her pakistani mama and has just cooked for you

  • The food is authentic and there is no diluting of flavours to cater to softer taste buds

  • Lahore Karahi is a local gem and is frequently packed with diners with a long queue of people ordering their takeaways

  • It is in the heart of busy Tooting and is in walking distance from Tooting Broadway tube station

  • Great place to with family or friends for dinner

  • Lahore Karahi is always buzzing with customers especially in the evenings so this alone says a lot about the food here

  • I normally go for the kebab roll which comes in a fluffy naan bread along with sauces and salad

  • Since it's made fresh it does take a little while to be made however the service is fairly quick

  • I would recommend coming here if you're looking for a good affordable curry house to come to with family and friends

  • I came here with my family and we ordered a selection of curries and biryanis as well the mixed grill kebab

  • Every dish was full of flavor and leaves you wanting more

  • The food was the best I have had and absolutely delicious

  • The place itself is very clean

  • By far the best restaurants in tooting and I definitely recommend it

  • It wasn't too busy but by the time we left the tables were fast filling up and they were also doing a roaring trade with the takeaways of course this always inspires me with some confidence

  • Good flavour but a little disappointed they used breast meat as some of the pieces were a little dry

  • All mopped up with sides of rice and garlic naan

  • Though Dosa n Chutney is still the place to go for your dosa

  • The curries here were lovely and we weren't left with that salty thirsty feeling afterwards

  • Tried out Lahore karahi a few weeks ago and as with most places in tooting

  • Tandoori chicken was poor though really lacked flavour

  • The service could do with a smile too

  • I have tried their restaurant and wide menu with friends twice and both the times the food was pathetic

  • No flavours no taste and the service is quite bad as well

  • Very local with friendly staff

  • Taking pride of place on Tooting high Street with its large white and blue sign announcing its presence to the wandering curry masses

  • The restaurant was busy on arrival and continued to fill up to capacity on the ground floor at least

  • Certainly popular with the locals

  • Was it reflected in the quality of the food or was the giant sign money well spent

  • Overall the cafeteria style combined with the buzzing but echoey ambience sees Lahore Karahi rewarded with a

  • The CURRYBONDers are largely prompt

  • We are welcomed by a friendly face and a bit of a do it yourself service with a stack of plates and cutlery provided and after a few requests some glasses for our BYO Cobras

  • After spending a week across the pond with our American friends our bellies were certainly now used to hefty portions

  • An unusual style with a burger shaped slightly flabby orange fella presented to us it tastes nice but certainly won't trouble the upper echelons of bhaji brilliance

  • On the menu is ginger chicken

  • This consistently dour palette is echoed in the flavours with many of the curries tasting quite similar

  • Having said that most dishes are still flavoursome

  • The naan is good though just a little too crunchy and the pilau rice is of the neon flecked variety

  • So with the evening running away with us we quickly call for the bill and with a BYOB policy

  • So perhaps Lahore has become somewhat complacent with it's signage attracting the locals like curry moths to a rather mediocre flame

  • Went with some Friends and after eating in Tayyabs expected food in similar lines and in all honesty it was no way near that

  • Kebabs were below par and curries Lamb and Chicken was nothing special

  • Finally on the second day I was able to drop in to Lahore Karahi on a Sunday late around 11pm

  • Ordered butter and Garlic nans along with Chicken Butter Masala

  • The Chicken Butter Masala was awesome and this is a BYOB place

  • One thing i would have loved is not charging for the chutney tray for ordering the papad which i was not told that we will be charged

  • So thought chutney was complimentary as with other restaurants

  • Overall my experience was good and i would recommend
