Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar - Marriott London County Hall (South Bank)

• The restaurant is named after the 19th Century English political caricaturist James Gillray
• Presumably the theme was chosen due to the political history of County Hall
• Looks out directly over the river with a view of Big Ben and the houses of Parliament
• Aberdeen Angus steak is sourced from O&rsquo
• A T bone steak weighing 660g was priced at £
• Dover sole was a relative bargain at £
• 25 for a fish that is usually pricier than this on London menus
• The wine list was offered on a tablet
• So the mark ups are no kinder at the high end of the list
• Instead of bread there was Yorkshire pudding with a cheese filling and horseradish cream
• The only problem being that the Yorkshire pudding was distinctly on the dry side (12/20)
• Crab cakes were rather disappointing
• The coating was quite soggy (11/20)
• The chicory was of good quality and the balance right (13/20)
• Dover sole was nicely cooked
• T bone steak was cooked as ordered and served with a choice of sauces and mustard
• Even so a three course meal with coffee is going to set you back around £
• Though at least there is the river view

• Orange and freshly squeezed lime juice with a Angostura bitters
• Starting out with a cocktail (or two &hellip
• ) before proceeding to dinner was a great way to kick off my night and catch up with an old friend who was joining me for dinner
• S selection of Aberdeen Angus steaks sourced from English farms and aged for 35 days is complemented by a range of tasty dishes and a fantastic view of the Thames
• Walnut and Buffalo Blue salad with pickled pears (£
• A not mentioned on the menu complementary treat of massive and moreish Yorkshire pudding with melted Cheddar and horseradish cream wowed
• The wine list is well rounded (a bottle of Don Jacobo 2008 was nice)
• Keep it in mind next time you and a mate have something to celebrate with carnivorous feasting
• I haven't eaten in the restaurant yet but if you're looking for a bar with a view then Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar - Marriott London County Hall (South Bank) is for you
• The decor is classic and timeless with groupings of comfortable chairs around low tables as well as banquet booths
• The bar is very well stocked especially with gins and the mixologists mix a great cocktail
• Whether you are looking for something traditional or quirky
• My favourite came in a teapot complete with china cup and saucer and a strainer
• The cocktails can be a bit pricey this is in the city centre so is to be expected
• As a place to begin my evening in the city this is definitely one of my top choices
• Steak was overcooked with too much fat for a Filet
• The waiter did not tell us the steak would be served with a large Portabello mushroom
• We get a window seat away from the throng with a vista back toward the city
• We're presented with menus as soon as we're seated
• Immediately asked if we are ready to order
• So he literally mounts the back of the bench seats with a pole to tilt the high window
• As it arrives with a large spherical ice cube
• Is presented well with a tiny saucepan of soup poured over chards of feta at the table
• The peppercorn sauce was however terrible
• It soon became apparent that the thrice cooked chips were so named because they were served on Saturday
• The onion rings sides were however delish
• The green beans and toasted almonds were cut into tiny lengths
• Whilst the heritage carrots were strange small chunks
• The waitress was nervous the whole time
• The wine list was very basic
• Everything else was frankly farcical
• There are so many reasons why steak is one of my favourite things to eat and Gillray&rsquo
• Afternoon tea with a view of the Houses of Parliament or the London Eye
• This sounded like the perfect way to spend an afternoon with my oldest best friend &
• I love Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar - Marriott London County Hall (South Bank) especially for their awesome VIEWS (the eye of London is right outside their windows
• You know a restaurant is good when even their most basic salad is delicious
• Their Burger and Fries were such a guilty pleasure but I don&rsquo
• My favourite here is their salmon avocado salad which was bursting with flavour and simply a joy to eat
• Eating at Gillray's Steakhouse in County Hall by the River Thames is an amazing experience
