Drakes Tabanco (Fitzrovia)

• Tradition and its people then Jerez (sherry) is somewhere you have to experience
• So it really is a cultural change which leaves you struggling at first
• Coming back with another tongue by the end of it all
• A traditional Jerez taverna with dark wood and stone washed walls though all very basic and simple
• We opted for the standard menu and first started with some simple nibbles
• Falling apart at the touch of my fork but still with a little crunch
• Smoked pork sausage let the side down a little bit as i was expecting something more like some thinly sliced pieces of smoky pork sausage
• Instead i was presented with a bowl of what was essentially a chopped up bag of snack sausages you could purchase from Partridges
• Drakes Tabanco is a charming little sherry &
• S sherry industry after returning from his raid on Cadiz with 3000 butts of sherry contraband
• Unfortunately the Brits were never fully exposed to the real stuff
• The real gems are carefully nurtured over many years and released without being processed (en rama)
• Drakes Tabanco is no exception
• Are simply mind blowing when partnered with the right food
• Such as goose rillettes paired with a chilled glass of fino en rama
• Desserts weren't quite as exciting though perhaps we were all a little too full by that point
• Serving plates with some good and strong flavours
• My favourites here were the Salmon Gravadlax with Beetroot and Horseradish
• Cured Sardines and Rolled lamb breast with Puy Lentils and Salsa Verde
• The waiting staff were very welcoming and the service we received was good
• Then there is a list of good wines to choose from
• Artisan sourdough was fantastic and so was the riesling we ordered
