Bar 61 (Streatham)

• I visited with a friend from work and was warmly welcome on arrival by the barman who asked if we would like to sit at the bar or would we like a table
• The restaurant started to fill up over the course of the evening and as we started to fill a bit peckish ourselves with asked for a menu in which we ordered a variety of different tapas dishes from
• So we decided that we should give it a try and we were not disappointed
• The tapas were delicious and good price / quality but most of all the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and the service was really excellent
• I ate there with my girlfriend and other friends
• A big plus for the service that was both very intentioned but very discreet
• Whilst this is not a bad restaurant
• At the same time it is not that great either
• The staff here are simply amazing
• The restaurant itself feels very kitsch with its mock Spanish taverna decor but it certainly adds to the charm of the place rather than being naff
• The wine list is extensive and impressive
• We went for the Rioja and it was full bodied and smooth and went down very well
• The cheese selection was also delicious although we were disappointed to discover that the blue cheese we were enjoying was an English stilton rather than a cabrales or valdeon
• The food unfortunately is a bit of a let down
• The mussels were cooked in a white wine sauce which was congealed and pretty tasteless and both the calamares and whitebait were deep fried and detracted from the flavour of the actual fish
• The highlight was the Mediterranean prawns cooked in garlic butter which arrived whole and were cooked to perfection
• The growing opulence of south London has stretched to 'trendy' Streatham with new new age
• Amongst them is this tapas bar with plenty of back end seating
• The waiter helpfully suggested how many dishes was enough so we didn't over order
• TimeOut is correct that the ratatouille is a stand out dish
• Garlic mushrooms were of solid Portobello
• Both the patatas bravas ad chorizo were abundantly cut
• You must also consider the cost as it is above average but then
• Considerably so is the quality you might get 3 tapas for under £
• Internet recommendations is something millennials can rely on
