The Spylaw Tavern (Colinton)

• Sitting in the restaurant was like we had been transported back in time to the late 80s
• I decided to go for the beef burger with bacon and cheese
• When ordering I was asked if I would like chips or potatoes with my burger
• A slightly strange question as ive never seen boiled potatoes being served with a burger before but I suppose not everyone likes chips
• Not being a fan of wilted lettuce I just went with it and opted for the veggies
• I then realised everyone at our table was asked the same question
• The meal itself was average at best
• The burgers were of really poor quality and not sure they really had much beef in them
• The bacon and chips that came with it were ok
• The veg on the other hand was pretty poor
• The carrots were ok but the peas (which were from a tin) were cooked to an inch of their life and the neeps resembled runny baby food
• We noticed on leaving that it states on the menu at the door that all the food is prepared fresh on the premises
• They would really do well with some time and money invested in the place
• The type of customer that they would be used to 15 years ago is a very different customer with different expectations now
