Montpeliers (Bruntsfield)

• This establishment is good for having a few drinks
• What is described never lives up to what is then actually served
• The portions are quite small
• Im sure that the chefs will never know who ordered what etc as the same meals are on the main menu as well so I do doubt that you are given less
• As per my rating 'good enough' it is worth a visit as the interior is lovely and it is nice to sit down with some drinks for friends but the food is only ok
• First visit to the newly refurbished Montpeliers started well with a spicy tequila bloody Maria full of flavour and hugely refreshing
• Goats cheese bruschetta and fish goujons were all poorly cooked and thrown together
• Far too much oil and grease everything fried was obviously done so in cold oil and little or no seasoning
• Situated as it is in a busy little corner of Edinburgh
• This stretch of Morningside Road and Bruntsfield Place has an abundance of decent eateries (the excellent Papillion for one) so flourishing in this competitive market is even more impressive
• I would suggest that it is a combination of good food great service and excellent value for money that brings in (and back) the punters
• I have been to Montpeliers a couple of times times and I've always found the place to be really busy and the dinner menu with a starter and main course for £
• Cor and efficient and friendly service is exactly what a great value menu needs to propel Montpeliers from average to greatness
• The menu begins with a good selection of five starters and then Main courses catering to every taste
• When we were there there was a choice of chicken
• The cup runneth over for Main Course choice with nearly a dozen more menu options
• On this visit to Montpeliers there was three generations eating as my three year old daughter and fifty ahem something father were also dining along with accompanying wives
• Typically whilst the rest of my family were all able to find something off the daily menu to suit them the little person and I obviously had to be different
• We decided to share the mixed platter for a starter and then have the corn fed Chicken Breast with King Prawns for a main course
• The service was welcoming we were greeted at the door and shown straight away to our table there was plenty of room for the five of us
• The staff as usual were very friendly and efficient bringing over menus taking drinks orders and returning to take our food order after once we had made the difficult deliberations detailed above
• The marinated chicken skewers was set upon by my famished daughter
• Tender and juicy with a marinade that made it's presence known without being overwhelming
• The goats cheese crostini was beautifully cooked crusty on top slightly melted inside with a rich flavour
• The smoked Haddock and Dill fish cakes with my personal favourite the flavour of the fish balanced perfectly with the Dill
• The inside of the fish cake had a light fluffy consistency which was contrasted with the crisp breadcrumbs giving the fish a loving hug
• The Caesar salad was a welcoming addition and distracted me from the fact that the meat and fish were rapidly disappearing from the board
• The wedges and zucchini fries were also outstanding
• Covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried it is a taste sensation although it could be said that most things taste much better when battered and deep fried
• Texture and flavour and was a little more interesting than the usual garlic mayo or Barbecue Sauce
• The Breast of Chicken was nicely char grilled with a crisp outside
• I was curious to see how the two would relate but I'm pleased to say that the Basil Cream sauce was successful
• The excellent accompaniment to both meat and prawns were the baby potatoes which were beautifully cooked and complimented the meal perfectly
• The child friendly waiting staff checked on us after every dish was served to make sure everything was okay and kept our glasses topped up throughout the evening
• Using the excuse that I was sharing seemed to make it acceptable
• Desserts and then usually drinks is the big stick used to knock cash out of your wallet/purse/pocket
• At Montpeliers the stick is not that big
• Possibly more twig like as all the little extras are quite reasonably priced

• While it probably won't be the most delicious food you've ever had (though the French toast and truffled macaroni cheese is lovely) the full cooked breakfasts offer value for money

• When we arrived at 6pm the place was a hive of activity
• Breakfast can not be faulted offers great value for money and is served late which is so handy after a late night
• Montpeliers is a busy spot and this does affect serving times

• As you can see from the pictures the food was small tapa style portions to go with each beer
• Mr Edinburger thoroughly enjoyed the beef slider with blue cheese glaze and I loved the chilli prawns

• All the food served was delicious and tasted very fresh
• I have been back for brunch and although staff is super friendly and decoration is fab

• A decent breakfast cafe on your doorstep is essential for good weekend living

• Since Montpeliers (Bruntsfield) is usually packed it's good to book a table in advance
• They were extremely tasty and the eggs were cooked perfectly
• The portion size was the right amount
• I accompanied my eggs with an orange juice
• I prefer fresh orange juice with pulp in it
• The people I have been with have really enjoyed their meals and the atmosphere is always enjoyable
• The only issue is that because it is so busy you may have to wait for a table so go a bit early than you plan to eat
• Always has been up there with one of the best brunch spots at that side of town
• The staff here really are on another level
• The atmosphere is alive yet relaxing
