Ghillie Dhu (West End)

• The building used to be a church and was converted to a restaurant/bar establishment with live music on the ground floor
• One of the greatest things about the Ghillie Dhu that I really like is their weekly Friday ceilidhs
• The only days there are no ceilidhs are when there are special bands on so be sure to check their events calendar on their website before going
• The upstairs is laden with long heavy trestle tables and benches
• It's also a perfect setting for a wedding with its stained glass windows and gothic architecture which has been preserved
• The staff is fast and they have Staropramen on the tap which is always a nice surprise
• It's usually full of tourists so everyone is running around and no one knows what to do
• So I think there are better ceilidhs in Edinburgh
• The band here is usually good though
• Black pudding and goats cheese risotto which is all three of my favourite things combined
• My dad had fish and chips which came with a delicious chippie sauce
• Cosy cubs to sit in and is great at Christmas
• Live singer came on a 9pm which was a nice touch
