  • Since then the two experienced chefs have grown their own gardens around the cottage and formed friendships with the local community and local producers to ensure the freshest produce

  • The portions aren't huge but there are six or seven courses of simply prepared and presented food

  • It is a warm and cosy place that is definitely worth visiting once

  • We loved the fresh tastes including a wonderful pea and lovage cold soup and gorgeous crispy toasts with variou toppings

  • The white clothed table was set with flowers and Queen&rsquo

  • The sun shone on the castle cliff and serious shoppers were arriving in droves as we took our seats

  • The building has stood empty for a long time is being refurbished before Dale and Edward can move in

  • I went on my own but chatted with my fellow diners and watched the chefs cook our food on a hotplate

  • We started with a delicious pretzel from Falko Konditormeister (where Edward was head chef)

  • Ve only had pretzels with mustard or cheese before but can tell you that they go wonderfully with farmhouse butter and strawberry jam too

  • The main attraction there was smoked haddock and poached eggs on a bed of wilted spinach

  • The smoky flavour of the haddock was enhanced by the little wafts of smoke that came from the smoking lunch

  • I know I was lucky that alot of my favourite ingredients were on the menu the night I went so I was extactic

  • Property and waiting staff are lovely the seating arrangement was very uncomfortable

  • You are sitting beside strangers and in our case they were lacking in conversation so spent the evening listening to ours

  • The portions are small and on the night we went everything was vegetarian except for the main course

  • One course was a slice of cucumber

  • The main dish was the size of a starter

  • The concept is different to any other restaurant in Edinburgh and I'm a fan of that

  • Once inside we were delighted to see that we were in luck

  • Lightly seasoned and beautifully arranged with roasted carrots and turnips

  • Sourdough perfection topped off with a dipping bowl of Rapeseed Oil

  • Our food was fantastic and we were made to feel so welcome

  • The communal tables were sociable for lunch

  • Creative geniuses using food the dishes are simply gorgeous and you can see that love and attention to detail is high on their agenda

  • Taste every single aspect of the entire dish is well and clearly thought out to create a symphony in your mouth

  • The only reason you should be visiting The Gardener's Cottage (Broughton) is for its food

  • An inviting cottage shaped beacon of warmth with a mini allotment out front of vegetable patches and seasonal fairy lights

  • I ordered the potted kippers with brioche bread and asked for a poached egg

  • Everything was possible and with a smile

  • In the thought that we are there already and holidays are about treating yourself to something a little special

  • The brunch was delicious and great service

  • The interior is lovely and comfortable which is perfect for a lazy breakfreat to start the day
