  • This will improve once the place is better worn in

  • The Atelier is a really promising new addition to our Edinburgh restaurant tapestry

  • Their offering is compelling enough to demand a dedicated visit

  • Ll be as impressed as I was by this elegant

  • Crusty bread with a tasty pesto dipping sauce

  • The pacing of the meal was a little on the slow side for a lunch

  • It was fine for us because we were not in a hurry on this particular afternoon

  • Chick pea curry was enjoyable as a main

  • I followed this with the cheese plate

  • Was nice except for the fact that the cheeses were served at refrigerator temperature

  • Once seated she served us an amuse bouche of butternut squash soup with truffle and truffle oil

  • It was all in such a small cup it got a bit too concentrated with all that truffle flavor and the truffle pieces tended to stick in my teeth

  • As a main I had risotto with a saffron creme

  • The addition of figs were nice but not a must at all

  • I could've done without and if you're not a saffron lover this is not a dish for you because this dish was singing saffron left to right

  • Now for the best and most important part

  • The only thing I was sure of was that I would have a licorice flavored macaroon with figs and some touch somewhere of coffee

  • I'm not so sure about the figs (The Atelier (West End) seemed to love them) and the ricotta or where this coffee was but the marshmallow was gorgeous

  • I would have preferred the chef to be more daring with the licorice flavor

  • The Atelier is definitely the place for a date night with its intimate and cozy atmosphere

  • The people working there are wonderful and very attentive

  • I'm leaving them with one piece of advice

  • Sometimes simpler is better and try not to include fig in every course (or maybe it was a theme I missed)

  • First up is a smoked chicken salad with crispy parma ham and a rosemary and avocado sponge

  • As odd as it may seem the salad was at a very pleasing temperature

  • The chicken was nicely warmed through and the salad was cool not cold which made for a nice combination

  • The sponge was light and airy with just a hint of rosemary

  • Accompanying this pantone of green was a brilliant maroon soup which competed with the burnt orange furnishings and neon red pepper mill for most striking appearance

  • Decadently thick and creamy from the beetroot with just the right amount of buck from the horseradish

  • The menu was familiar with the likes of other MS restaurants

  • Maybe this is and i just didn't know about it

  • So some bread to start with two types of butter

  • One with seaweed and another which was orange and didn't quite hear what it was

  • Then i am served some puree that was a bit like tomato

  • The scallops was perfectly cook with the starter containing ice cream

  • First time to have ice cream to start and it was just so prefect

  • After another wait my lamb was served in a array of greens

  • Again everything just matched with the flavours

  • Taken a back as i was i decided to order dessert even though i was full
