The Signal Pub (Forest Hill)

• Peckham and Forest Hill are a real hub of activity and just a stone's throw away from the City in the grand scheme of London
• The inevitable movement of generation X and Y has taken hold of the area and along with their families
• Have brought with them their palate for trendy cafes and pubs
• One such area that has seen their High St morph to reflect this is Forest Hill and to great effect where within a concentrated block
• Taking over what was previously The Hob
• The Signal is a modern day gastropub where the emphasis is as much on the food as it is as the drink
• Sourced from artisan bakers who use traditional wood fired ovens which has the effect of infusing it with a subtle smoky undertone
• The Signal is so much more
• The night kicked off with starters of cockles
• Lemon dish which was absolutely beautiful
• Seasoned then mixed with a combination of pickles
• The salmon was moreish and really something quite special
• The meat was impossibly tender and moist with even the tricky breast retaining a healthy amount of natural juices
• My personal recommendation would be the garlic mayo but all were fine and worth the £
• A 35 day dry aged Coggleshall beef burger with ogleshield cheese and accompanying salad on a potato bun
• I'd say I wasn't disappointed with the result
• The burger was cooked medium by default and had a decent depth of flavour which was important because the sandwich as a whole had a lot of flavours going on from the sharp ogleshield
• I'd easily consider this one of the best and I've had my fair share of burgers in the area
• If the apple crumble with custard we had is indicative of the quality of the puddings however
• I can assure you it is worth the additional little effort because you'd want to at least know what deliciousness you're missing out on
• The Signal is a win and a great addition to Forest Hill's ever growing culinary scene
• Honest food pair with a top selection of beer and wines
• Become acquainted with the new pub's cleverly created cocktail menu
• When the venue is only a short stroll from my house
• Deciding whether or not i'll head along is hardly a big choice for me to make

• Each hippo pub is created to be a place that the local community will want to chill out and relax in
• Will cater to all with a large emphasis on being a friendly place for neighbours to come to and feel as if they are in an extension of their own homes
• Before long i was begging her to let me eat some of it
• The signal's food offering is a real throw back to the simplicity of open fire cooking from the original ale houses
• The menus will always showcase the best in british ingredients
• The drinks menu in the signal was certainly no different
• The main saloon bar was an eclectic mix of real ales and lagers
• As well as an ~impressive and heaving selection of london's best liquor behind the bar
• Fyi the forest hill mule is bloody delicious
• A whole roasted chicken with meat so tender it fell away from the bone
• The chicken taking far too long to finish because of how easily it was falling off the fork
• Eventually it was time to leave
• The hangover on friday was totally worth it
• To have met and spoken to some really passionate people really was the icing on the cake
• The pub game in south east london is certainly on the rise
• Next time you're out and about in forest hill my recommendation is to definitely check the pub out
