  • Radical and downright bizarre but the staff are welcoming and the atmosphere relaxed and informal

  • I had the pea and ham salad whilst my partner went for cured duck breast with a Stilton dressing

  • My fillet of beef main course was similarly well seasoned and perfectly cooked as was the loin of lamb

  • The lemon polenta cake and my golden syrup pudding with custard finished off what was a very enjoyable

  • The really friendly staff who didn't hang on your every word but always seemed to be around when a glass needed filling were great and the wine

  • Their forte is surely their game but everything I saw coming out of their kitchen from the fish

  • I did however read one review stating that they was glad that the waitress left the jug of water on the table because they never offered to refill once during their two hour stay

  • Anyway the roast is sheer perfection I only wish I would one day have the opportunity to try one of the other meats

  • So you have to comply with your buddy if dining in even numbers)

  • Pity the maitre d' failed to direct us towards it instead of first leading us on a complete circuit looking for a table and then bringing us back to reception while a table was laid for us

  • Rules in Covent Garden is London&rsquo

  • On this occasion there were some fabulous desserts on offer so we avoided the starters in favour of something sweet later on

  • I had lunch at Rules over Christmas with a couple of friends

  • Starting from the entrance with the man on the door dressed in an ye olde world uniform (see the website homepage) then the fantastically designed interior

  • You know you are in for a meal of a lifetime

  • The wine list is pretty good but pricey as is the norm in London

  • The place is welcoming and we were shown to a lovely red leather booth

  • I think the terrine would have been great with a piccalilli or similar rather than a few cornichons though

  • The service was a little hit and miss

  • I know this is often practiced but it doesn't make me like it any more

  • The rib of beef was absolutely superb as were the massive Yorkshire puddings it came with

  • Dessert we had the crumble and custard and the steamed treacle pudding both were very nice too

  • It's not a cheap restaurant but then again what is in London these days

  • It was formally with a touch of humour without the stuffiness

  • I was in love with the classy and glamour decor

  • Birthday is such an occasion but I was treated to a fantastic dinner nevertheless at London&rsquo

  • I had never been there in my 19 years in the city but I knew of it and was pleasantly surprised by a great meal and experience

  • So one night we took the plunge with some friends and decided to give it a try

  • The atmosphere for this restaurant is really good

  • You can definitely feel the grandeur that comes with being the oldest restaurant in London

  • I got the steak with chips on the side

  • An experience with traditional English fare like Steak and Kidney Pie to fresh game like Squib Pigeon or Rabbit

  • The meals are reasonable for the price and quality and the service is outstanding

  • The portions are double most higher end restaurants

  • The menu is front to back with classic English fare

  • The pastry is buttery and cooked through

  • While the sauce within is reduced to a wonderfully thick gravy

  • Disappointing mainly as expectations are of perfection for a place that has been doing this dessert for over a century

  • An institution that is lost in time

  • Wish to have a slice of history along with traditional British food

  • The restaurant is more than 200 users old

  • Hand down one of the best meals I have eaten

  • Chicken and Venison and was not one single person disappointed with their meal

  • The young French girl serving us was great and the meals were well worth the price we paid

  • Also when manager was confronted about the unnecessary hostilaty towards our table

  • Mentioned server was upset because one person on the table did not order an entree and instead choose a few appetizers

  • My wife an I had dinner before going to the theatre and I can say it was amazing the food

  • Service and ambiance was second to none

  • The dining room is absolutely sumptuous and the gilding is eye watering

  • It was rich and creamy and studded with massive mussels

  • Accompanied with salted cabbage

  • A light spongy and moist texture which came with creme fraiche which didn't make it overly sweet
