Restaurant Sauterelle (City of London)

• The Royal Exchange building in the heart of The City was established in 1565 as a commercial trading centre
• These days the building is a shopping centre
• On the mezzanine level of the Royal Exchange building is the 62 seat restaurant Sauterelle
• The sourdough bread that I tried was fine (14/20)
• Quail breasts poached and seared and served with a quail Scotch egg
• The Scotch eggs had a soft centre and the salad was properly dressed (14/20)
• A veloute of Jerusalem artichokes was poured over chestnuts
• The cod was cooked fine was but very salty indeed
• Venison haunch was served with braised red cabbage
• Initially the venison that appeared was a long way from the advertised &ldquo
• This was quickly replaced without fuss by one that was correctly cooked
• Perhaps could have done with a little more sharpness
• The celeriac puree was fine (13/20)
• Panna cotta of buttermilk was served with pink champagne granita
• The texture of the panna cotta was reasonable but the champagne granita had a rather odd flavor note
• Chocolate marquise was served with poached clementines and hazelnut ice cream
• The marquise itself was quite dense and had a slightly grainy texture
• Though the best dishes were certainly nice
• The view out into the atrium of the Royal Exchange is a very fine one if you can secure a window seat
• I had a business lunch with 5 other colleagues today
• I had the ravioli and there were maybe 7 pieces on my plate
• The taste of the ravioli was pretty bland and the soup of butter was about all I could taste
• So I don't know if this was just an off day or the norm but I do think that given the price
• A hidden gem with a very very reasonable dinner set menu
• The restaurant is in the grand Royal Exchange
• The risotto was cooked perfectly and seasoned well
• The night ended with a blackberry tart and petit fours
