  • There has been a restaurant in that same building with the same name for the majority of time since 1869

  • Pig scratchings would have been even better with an apple sauce dip

  • A crabcake was perhaps a bit light on the good stuff for £

  • Once you got over the mess (finger bowls were provided) you realised the lamb had a great flavour and were perfectly cooked to just pink

  • Longhorn mince on dripping toast was everything it promised to be

  • A straightforward but deeply satisfying plate of loose meat on a thick slab of sourdough made soggy with cooking juices

  • There was no room to pick fault with these lamb sweetbreads though

  • Sauces like this are the reason I eat out

  • It slots so happily into the London dining scene it's like it's been here for the best part of 150 years

  • Whether at home and faced with the meagre offerings from the tail end of the week&rsquo

  • S full of old world charm and that type of shabby chic floral bijoux crockery that in the hands of the wrong host and along with a room full of kitsch chintz can be utterly nauseating

  • Great textures were found in the smooth

  • Che and dense rye linked pinkies and promised to be best friends forever

  • Soft and gamey slow cooked partridge leg meat was re shaped and breaded around the bone into pleasing spheres

  • The plate of earthy wild mushrooms with an effortlessly glossy chicken liver parfait had a few sails of crisp chicken skin at the centre and tasted even better than that reads

  • With a great sense of celebration and sharing that family Sunday lunches do so well (even though it was Wednesday)

  • The side of kale was vibrant and well seasoned

  • The plates were cleared in their entirety

  • Flaked almonds and ice cream was the sort of dessert you could have three of

  • The cheeses were bold and British

  • Petit fours were dark chocolate covered honeycomb bites

  • Essentially high end Crunchie and what the hell is not to love about that

  • Next door to that is their Food Shop and Butchers selling all manner of stock from British cheeses and charcuterie to their own produce

  • The Quality Chop House is a rare breed

  • I like The Quality Chop House (Clerkenwell) very much the food is great so is the wine

  • The building itself is an old workers cafe that has been converted into a restaurant

  • Our waiter was really charming and kept checking that everything was fine with our meal

  • We shared a starter of pastrami and pickles which were both home made and very tasty

  • The Quality Chop House was built in the 1870s as a working man&rsquo

  • As is the building) are still a tight squeeze

  • More important than the name is the intention to stick to the principle of providing good

  • At lunch the menu was short with three choices at each course

  • At dinner there is a slightly longer menu

  • Or to drink with the meal at a £

  • Since the takeout price is by no means always the typical retail price

  • By any standards these are fair mark up levels for a London restaurant

  • Will doubtless attract people who like to drink well with their dinner

  • Chestnuts and pancetta was a suitably hearty dish for this cold November day

  • The Brussels sprouts themselves were distinctly on the al dente side of things

  • Much better was chicken leg with kale and wild mushrooms

  • The chicken was carefully cooked

  • Trompette) were very good (14/20)

  • Poached pears in yoghurt were also cooked so that a good texture resulted

  • The notes below are of experiences under the old regime

  • A starter of seared scallops with chilli and garlic sounded better than it really was

  • The coral left on and were rather overcooked

  • The slightly spicy salad with the scallops was fine

  • The main event was rather a let down (11/20)

  • A signature dish here is the salmon fishcake with sorrel sauce (I doubt this is a knowing reference to the famous salmon and sorrel dish at Troisgros

  • Rich fishcake with a creamy sorrel sauce

  • Haddock and chips was a somewhat small portion of haddock whose batter was cooked a little longer than ideal

  • The fish tasted fine and the mushy peas with it were the real thing

  • The following are brief notes from a meal in March 2006

  • Also gravadlax with mustard sauce

  • Best dish is the salmon fish cake with sorrel sauce

  • The seating is on communal wooden benches

  • Though there are so many candidates here that it would be by no means a certainty

  • It managed to pull off some excellent British classics using fine ingredients which is a rare quality these days

  • The service was also smart and friendly which was a real big plus

  • The Quality Chop House is a historical restaurant dating back to the 19 th Century when it used to be a place for working men to get the chop of the day

  • As I thought it was very charming

  • The drink delivery was running late

  • So the wine list was pretty limited

  • We had the pigeon with foie gras which was really excellent

  • Wine selection was also solid

  • The decor of the restaurant is also quite pleasant and cozy

  • A chop house is a British traditional dating back over a century

  • They were places for people (men) to talk business over traditional hearty food washed down with fine wine and beer

  • It's great for a dinner out to experience British history with a hint of a modern twist

  • S doors after hearing praise for it while we were still living in Australia

  • The Quality Chop House is a Dining Room

  • Have visited twice in the past two weeks and both time was totally blown away by the quality of the food

  • Great wine list too with lots of variety and plenty at reasonable (£

  • I never had the chance to go for dinner at The Quality Chop House before as it was always packed every time I walked past

  • I really liked the decoration of the whole room with black and white tiles on the floor

  • While I decided to kick off this dinner with a fresh Scottish langoustine

  • Pistachio terrine served with some Pommery mustard and two lucky people managed to get the two last plates available of morcilla

  • The morcilla was tasty and earthy and went very well with the duck egg

  • The mince came with some bread and watercress and was delicious as it sopped up all the great flavour from the dish

  • It was the best piece of duck breast I ever had in terms of quality

  • This breast was ridiculously perfectly cooked

  • Their confit potatoes are one of their signature dishes and if you try them you will surely know why it's a 'must try' dish

  • This restaurant is my idea of the ideal place to spend an evening with friends (or maybe a romantic dinner on a different occasion)

  • I loved the fact there is nothing extravagant in The Quality Chop House (Clerkenwell)

  • The decoration is old and traditional

  • The service was faultless and our waitress was very friendly and not intrusive

  • The Quality Chop House is a restaurant and butcher on Farringdon Road

  • We chose to dine here because we were a couple of weeks into game season and I was dying to eat grouse somewhere

  • The restaurant sits in a 19th Century Grade II listed building and is still configured in it's original design

  • I always did find myself regarding with particular suspicion objects that described themselves as gold

  • Every meal is a celebration
