Luna Rossa (Notting Hill)

• Lunna Rossa has that fake 'Made in Italy' feel where they are trying to recreate eating in Tuscany
• Without the vineyards and real stone wall that is near impossible
• The pizza's are good the only thing worth having on the menu
• I ordered the mixed ham starter which was awful quantity not quality
• A friend ordered the meat and was not particularly impressed either
• When you enter the very charming looking eatery that is Luna Rossa
• The ambiance is relaxed and you get the feeling that people are really enjoying themselves
• An Italian family of about eight people were seated next to us generally a good sign and one that filled me with enthusiasm
• The food that was being served at other tables looked good and the place was buzzing
• I really fancied the salmon but was told it was no longer on the menu
• Sadly that was not available either
• A large tubular shaped pasta with home made sausage
• Let's start with the good stuff
• The bruschetta was as it should be ripe
• The scallop dish was also very tasty I've never had au gratin served with cubes of potato before but it worked and was very enjoyable
• I didn't detect any zest and frankly it was just nasty
• The rice balls had no crunch to the outside and the rice was an over cooked mush that was overpoweringly salty
• The mussels were plump and tasty but again
• Just al dente but the truffle oil was so overpowering and the buttery sauce in which the mushrooms and sausage were swimming just didn't do it for me
• A tick of cream and some lemon to sharpen it and bring it together were my thoughts
• Sharp cheese it was drizzled with yet more truffle oil which it just didn't need
• The bill came to just over seventy pounds and we both left with that weary feeling of disappointment and slight bewilderment that is beginning to invade my world
• Luna Rossa is an Italian restaurant located just away from the bustle of Portobello Road on the parallel Kensington Park road
• This is a restaurant in which to enjoy a long lunch with good conversation
• As you can see from the pics I have tried different dishes and all of them were properly made with real Italian taste
• We sat on a table outside and the restaurant was more than half empty
• Grumpy service is tolerable when the food is good
• Unfortunately the food was average at best
• Minastrone was ok thus the two stars but the seafood linguine was too salty and otherwise virtually flavourless
• The one rescue for Luna Rossa (Notting Hill) is very nice wine and quite good starters
• Expectations were quite high
• The pizza dough is what makes it
• The Aperol Spritz are a must have and taste exactly like they do in Italy
• Ended off the meal with a deliciously light tiramisu
• Imdeed what is required for a perfect meal isn't it
