The Laughing Gravy (Southwark)

• The front of the venue is the bar area with sofas and wooden tables
• After a deterioration in standards in the decade after 2000 The Laughing Gravy was bought by local resident TV critic and journalist Jon Wise
• This neighbourhood restaurant was heaving on a Tuesday night
• I'm assuming they've discovered that this restaurant is not bad at what it does
• Great food at a good price point with a superb drinks menu
• The only reason I will is that selfishly I live West
• It was hot smoked whisky cured Loch Duart salmon on Guinness and malted sourdough soil with horseradish mousse and truffle snow

• A lovely plate with super sharp apple
• Rolled in apple gelee which was amusing and unexpected
• A lovely pinwheeled roll of wild boar and pistachio with damson chutney and purple potato crisps
• This fantastic duck terrine and chicken liver and Foie gras pate is a plate of fabulous
• The wild mushroom and salted deer stuffed venison fillet Wellington came with tender stem broccoli
• A little 'flabby' for me but this kind of thing is all subjective
• The venison was just perfect
• A plate of pan fried market fish with braised leek
• This Christmas offering was full of flavours brought together so very well
• Amaretto sour and caramelised banana sundae with candied cashews
• A seven year aged dark rum soaked raisin and roasted pecan pie with vanilla and nutmeg infused eggnog popcorn brû
• The salted caramel mousse with vanilla fudge
• Shortbread and chocolate rum ganache filled Caramac cylinder was a clever nod to my childhood
• This was heaven with the chocolate brownie
• The elasticated pants were at their upper limits
• He was told they were full and he couldn&rsquo
• Given an apparently empty table in the bar area he was surprised at both their response and their attitude
• I was likewise told that they were busy in the restaurant but if I wanted to I could have a table in the bar
• There to the right hand side of the entrance was the same empty table my husband had seen
• Apparently we both spoke to the manager so I am left wondering was my husband rejected because he was black and I not because I was white
