Kew Gardens Hotel (Kew)

• With its very comfortable seating boasted a small but interesting menu and we were all in the mood for the rib eye steak
• To start I was very much looking forward to the duck livers sauteed in port
• My pals chose the mezze board (above) and the Devon crab cakes with sweet chili sauce
• What followed after each initial mouthful was a collective sigh and a sort of incredulous look on our faces
• The bullets for livers were so sweet they completely smothered any other flavour on the plate
• Just the look of the totally uniform crab cakes with some sort of nasty looking gunk made me suspect they were bought in
• It matters not as they were simply 'bloody awful
• Artichoke and balsamic onions made it look as though food items were randomly selected without any thought and the hummus was frankly just horrible
• The stark looking plate was accompanied by anemic looking chips that were just WRONG
• I had asked for a rare steak I didn't ask for blue and it was almost cold it was so raw
• Small nuggets of uninteresting cheeses were presented with some grapes
• I have to say that the chocolate pudding was actually very good indeed and the Malbec
• 160 pounds and I can't tell you how sorry I was for my friend who was treating me to a birthday dinner
• It's a great place for having a few drinks in the evening with a friend or catching up with a group of friends
