Jaffna House (Tooting)

• Ready to leave no poppadum unturned in our quest to find Tooting's best curry based nutrition in 2013
• Then a few more in London Bridge were enough to whet the appetite and loosen us up for a curry
• On the high street is the take away entrance with a few tables and chairs for the more amateur diners
• The pros and those in the know the restaurant is round the back
• Inside you'll take a step back into the 70s with a bar at the back that would make Delboy jealous
• It has a cosy feel and is a quieter diversion from the hustle and bustle of the likes of Lahore Karahi up the road
• My notes also say there were footsteps on the ceiling
• Re is commendable and bespoke napkins printed with Jaffna House insignia are a nice touch
• The overriding feeling was that the chef had got a bit giddy with the deep fat frier which might suit some
• The poppadoms were overtly greasy
• As with the starters and with our experience of Sri Lankan food thus far
• Unless we are ignorantly doing it wrong these are more like substitutes for biryanis than curry
• On pure price it was good value
• The devilled meat are perfectly cooked with the most authentic Sri Lankan spices
• Mains go for either the Lankan speciality of Kottu (shredded flat bread) with a choice of your meat or a Jaffna special dish
• The flavors are simply awesome but do let them know if you prefer it less spicy
• Oh and did I say the prices are amazingly affordable
• Don't miss this hidden gem if you are around the area
• Staff are friendly and the drinks are very reasonably priced
• I came here not realising my wife used to come here all the time with her family when they were younger
• Apparently it was excellent then and I agree it's still very good
• Aubergine curry was perhaps a bit oily
• The hoppers were hotter though I felt
• It's certainly noticeable on the high street with it's vibrant blue and yellow neon sign announcing our latest establishment as Sri Lankan South Indian Takeaway &
• The entrance to the restaurant is in fact around the corner through
• The restaurant inside is quite modest
• Up to start are Devilled Chicken
• There was a clear divide in opinion of the food quality with the CURRYBONDers nearest the bar (I'm sure this had no bearing
• The naan accompaniments were average being overly bready
• Cobras and Kingfisher were on offer alongside the full bar of spirits so added to the overall cost
• We emerge from the curry dining room into the darkness with Winter coats
• The service is just as bad and very rude (waiter by the name of Jaso) The food is extremely greasy and tastes of bad oil
