S birthday with loads of celebratory meals booked and of course three days off from the day job
-
S drinks up The Shard and a cheeky burger and wet fries at The Diner were cancelled as were the bookings for brunch at Duck &
-
A traditional roast diner with all the trimmings
-
The Honor Oak is a British gastro pub located in the thriving Forest Hill area of south London
-
Once there is plenty of parking nearby
-
S busiest times are during lunch and early evening &ndash
-
Especially with young families
-
Out front there is a fab little sun trap of a courtyard
-
Whilst at the back is a child friendly (no smoking) beer garden
-
A generous portion of course smokey ham mixed with finely chopped onion for a little crunch and sweetness
-
Bread (texture was a little like French toast) and piccalilli
-
T state if the piccalilli was homemade &ndash
-
T cooked as rare as we usually enjoy and was a little tough in places
-
The quality of the beef was obviously great and it packed a real meaty punch
-
Both dishes were served with crisp braised baby carrots
-
The real ale gravy was really good
-
Serving up extra in a little jug is always a good move
-
Also when asked if we required horseradish/mint sauce the waiter returned with two large bowls and loitered as we spooned them on to our roasts
-
Surely individual pots of these sauces is more convenient for the diners &ndash
-
My Summer Berry Eton Mess was exactly the correct dish to order after such a huge starter and main
-
It was sweet with plenty of fruit and chunks of crisp meringue
-
T eat cream or cheese(cake) the only other option was a Chocolate brownie
-
This brownie was far from boring &ndash
-
As mentioned earlier there are a couple of minor things that we would change to improve the meal but the service was impeccable
-
The Honor Oak is in a fantastic location and will only improve
-
The recently gentrified Peckham Rye is only 10 minutes drive away as is the beautiful Dulwich Village
-
We walked off our lunch with a stroll through the gorgeous Peckham Rye Park
-
In fact as soon as you hit the suburbs of London you're faced with an entirely different foodie scene
-
By far my favourite attraction is the vast amount of high quality gastropubs
-
I do love hooking up with old flames
-
Restaurant at the back with open kitchen and private hire space upstairs
-
I ate here a few days ago and I have to say that it was a horrible experience
-
On their menu and they were proper good battered fat onion rings
-
So I was looking forward to getting them again but sadly they were no longer on the menu
-
So my new approach to a new restaurant is to order 2 appetizers and see if they can cook those well
-
So the calamari rings were cut way too thin
-
Maybe because they were too cheap to give actual calamari in their calamari dish
-
Next the beef brisket tacos were the smallest tacos that I have ever seen
-
Both of these appetizers were worth less than half of their menu charged price really
-
T put the cheese on the beef patty while it was still on the grill
-
The cheese was a very cheap cheddar Asda version slice that had zero taste to it
-
The burger dish said that it came with a salad on the menu but it did not
-
When I asked the waitress where was my salad as described on the menu she said that the menu meant the greens on top of the burger &hellip
-
Or do they think a hamburger is like from McDonald&rsquo
-
S very mis leading to the customer to write a salad coming with a burger plate and all you give is something that is already expected like hamburger toppings or fixings
-
Then in the end when we walked out the chef gave me a thumbs up to me as if he was my buddy looking for approval of his poorly cooked hamburger and the rest of his sub par wretched appetizers
-
It is in a poor location with nothing else around
-
Anything more you are threading at your own peril
-
The food here is so sub par
-
Small portioned that it simply is not worth it
-
The appetizers were so small it was a pathetic insult to serve to the customers
-
The service was bad as the usual typically rude British service
-
The couches were dirty and unkept &hellip
