Hafez (Bayswater)

• The restaurant is set in a terrace with three outside tables and a ground floor dining room
• The room itself is eccentrically decorated with displays of cutlery on the walls
• The hard surfaces mean that noise levels are quite high
• I had rather hoped to try a rice dish for which the cuisine is well known
• The rice specials were only available on weekends
• Though there is only so much than can be done with hummus (11/20)

• This was supple in texture when so often this type of bread is served rock hard (easily 13/20)
• Stuffed vine leaves were pleasant if unexciting
• The vinegary sauce with them too sharp (10/20)
• The spicing was extremely subtle to the point where it was hard to detect (11/20)
• Both main courses were served with some rice and a basic salad without dressing
• Service was pleasant enough but was quite slow
• Overall Hafez is a decent enough neighbourhood restaurant
• No pork on the menu but alcohol is served here
• Exposed brick walls mounted with silverware
• We started with a selection of mezze
• The cold mezze was good but if you&rsquo
• The warm aubergine was like Marmite you either loved it or hated it
• The presentation was homely shall we say meat pieces floating in pools of gravy and standard white bowls did not look terribly inviting&hellip
• Luckily the taste was better than the appearance
• Ve heard the Iranians claim this is the best you will find outside of Tehran
• Aubergine curry cooked with plenty of tomatoes and herbs had a rich depth of flavour
• Fluffy aromatic rice cooked in butter and saffron with a relish of wild barberries
• The kebabs were very good as well but WOW the chicken
• Wash all the aromas and spices down with a glass of cold
• I think the grilled meats were generally superior in taste and quality to the curries so when I go again

• They do not serve alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own
• I love this street just off Westbourne grove and lined up with a few genuinely good ethnic restaurants
• Hafez is a classy Persian establishment with de finitely the best decor I've seen in an Iranian restaurant in London
• Whereas the opposite wall is adorned with beautiful antique cutlery
• We started off with the Kishk Bademjan and this was the best we've ever had
• A warm dip of aubergines puree with a delightful mix of vegetables and keshek
• The lavash bread was also very good
• Their joojeh cubes are juicy and succulent
• The food is not the best Iranian food but right up there
• The staff are nice and decoration is ver well done
