Espelette - The Connaught (Mayfair)

• We stayed at The Connaught for Christmas and as part of the package was Afternoon Tea
• The hotel were made away of my gluten free dietary requirement however we had a number of problems with my afternoon tea
• We arrived at our allocated time and my partners sandwiches were bought out and apparently mine were on the way
• The gluten free scones were lovely however the delay was disappointing
• My gluten free sandwiches finally arrived 45 minutes after our sitting time and they were nothing amazing (possibly I wasn't in the afternoon tea spirit by this point)
• We did receive a reduction in our room rate however the damage was already done
• The afternoon tea is served in a conservatory and during the summer months its extremely hot and an uncomfortable area to eat in
• I really do enjoy a classy afternoon tea/high tea I've been to a couple around the world but this was my first in London
• They're perfect for little celebrations and those times when you just want to indulge a little as the settings are usually elegant and refined
• Esplette at The Connaught was no exception to this rule the dining room was comfortably furnished and tableware was sufficiently pretty
• All served in proper teapots which is always a good sign
• We started with the usual club sandwiches
• These for my are the most boring part of an afternoon tea
• The salmon was probably the most flavourful
• Next we had scones and cakes with our choice of jam
• The scones were good but the jams were delicious they make these inhouse and have a wide range of flavours including raspberry
• This really does fill you up even the men in our party were sufficiently stuffed by all the sandwiches and cakes
• Ve been very on board with the Christmas cheer recently
• The age old tradition of afternoon tea with a christmassy twist
• I recently had breakfast there and it was simply delicious
• We came is as walk ins and the host was very accommodating especially that we arrived around the time that breakfast finished
• We ordered the omelette which was really good
• The spinach with the eggs florentine was odd tasting but the eggs Benedict with lobster was heavenly
