The Dissenting Academy (Stoke Newington)

• So you know the produce is of the highest quality
• The beef they bring from Philip Warren is outstanding
• One of the reasons that roast forerib dish at Clove Club was one of the standout things I've eaten this year
• The Dissenting Academy is a quirky pub with lots of contemporary art and graffiti around the place

• The lighting of the place is a bit too dim to see how well put together the plates are
• Especially with the nights drawing even sooner
• Butter pudding is hard for even someone with gluten sensitivity to resist
• You get a sense of the characters that would have frequented the original dissenting academy that was on this site
• Great bright layout with eye catching pieces of art
• Hay smoked scallop served with an orange ketchup
• There was even a spare one on our table that everyone was fighting over
• Spanish and Italian wines to try during the evening with each of our dishes
• Sweet mussels which were brought to life by the spicy nduja (with the sauce moped up by copious amounts of bread)
• Even though we were getting stuffed by this point
• We soldiered on and feasted on mains of mutton with wonderful depth of flavour
• Good burgers (veggie and beefie) but the buns were dry and tasted a bit on the supermarket cheap side
• My buddy had the roast pork and said it was a great plate of food but again the pork was a bit dry
• The Dissenting Academy (Stoke Newington) is pretty cool
• Half a cow hanging from the ceiling and there was decent music playing
• The only problem is that there wasn't any food
• Apparently it was starting again the day after we went
